Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

It is the classic pie-eyed Mickey!

I am looking forward to the funwheel.

I like those character designs as well. I think the gondolas look good.

I just think the giant Mickey is overkill. It's a bit like the "Epcot" sign over Spaceship Earth.

It seems amateurish, like what a kid would come up with if asked to design a new Disney amusement park. A kid who'd never been to a Disney park.

I'm not completely sold on the Merrie Melodies Swings either. Definitely better than the Orange, but, like the wheel, it's just pasting Disney characters onto carnival rides. That's why I said it looks like a knockoff.

It's what they do at Six Flags. "That may look like an ordinary Scrambler, but it's Bugs Bunny's Scrambler! So it's totally themed!", or whatever.

And Goofy's Flight School looks like it belongs in Toontown, if anywhere.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I'm confused! Is it the Orange Stinger or the Golden Zephyr that is being rethemed to Silly Symphonies?

The first post in this thread says Orange Stinger. But the new art work looks to be Golden Zephyr.

Whichever it is, what happens to the other attraction?

I just would really hope that they don't too tightly link the whole theme to just LA in the 20's and 30's. I would love to see the Grizzly area become fully Gold Rush themed and a Barbary Coast SF area added to give a more full vision of the history of the state.
My understanding is that eventually diferent parts of the park will evolve to other areas of the state. The Los Angeles area probably being the biggest with the entrance and hollywood district put together.

This project has had so many changes that we will probably not know what the final product will be like till its all done

The new concept artwork looks fabulous. Can't wait for these changes to become reality!

Its the orange stinger. It just looks like the zephyr because of the wires which are mostly concealed at the moment with the orange.

I believe they are going to add lighting to them during the makeover. Its going to be interesting to see hwo they do that since those wires holding the chains sometimes hit eachother when people are boarding the seats.

The zephyrs design already fits the new theming they are going for so i doubt that will get much changed to it

It's actually not a Silly Symphony. Mickey's Band Concert was the first color Mickey Mouse cartoon.

Honestly, it fits the pier theme better than the rumored "tornado" idea, and it looks perfectly victorian. I see nothing wrong with it.

It's supposed to be a victorian seaside boardwalk. Name a boardwalk that doesn't have a swing ride.

Uh this is the tornado idea. Look at the concept are again. You can clearly see the tornado on the structure. You can see it better on the picture to the right.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

If Silly Symphonies is really going in place of the Orange Stinger, then I guess they're removing the skin. Won't it look pretty close to the Golden Zephyr? Two towers with swings being spun around them.

Uhm.... the plan was to turn the entire structure into a tornado I believe, not just paint it and have it be one of many things on the swings. A full size fake tornado wouldn't have fit like the painting on the swings in the concept art.

I don't think they'll look that simmilar, but I do agree that it seems like those two spinning rides are too close together. Some of us had been suggesting that they relocate the Zephyr since it seems like it's in a bad location with the changes, but worth keeping as it fits in with the new theme well.

One suggestion that I thought would be best, would be expensive, but I think would be worth it. It would involve moving the Zephyr to a platform located approximately where the Screamin' queue is right now. Tritton's carrousel would be relocated to the current Zephyr location, and put in a new building to match the style of TLM attraction. Then the new entrance to Screamin' would be built between the exit and the restroom building that would enter into a new queue building built inside the helix and then connect to the existing loading area which would also be rethemed to have a more Victorian feel.

This would create a nice plaza area between TSMM and the new Screamin' entrance and the Zephyr, help block some views out of the park in that area, and put the Zephyr in a more dramatic location that would better balance it out with the swings on the other side of the boardwalk. It would also move the Mermaid themed stuff closer together and theme it in a more unified way.

Really? I thought it was staying, but I know there's been some changes in the plans, so maybe they will be going.
