Thanks MG, great layout of the plans for DCA. I am excited. I believe that DCA is finally going in the right direction.

Great idea! I'm so excited! Not only is this change exciting from a "fun" point of view, but for me, also from a "work" point of view. I wonder what the new shops will be like that I'll have the chance to work in?

Great job MG. I'll be checking back on this thread often.

The mods should make it a sticky just to forestall the coming avalanche of DCA threads.

Guests could board the cars, then select a destination with a pad or voice recognition. There can be several stops along the way, convenient to the DLR lands, or DCA stops.

Yes, it would be expensive, however, much less than just a few years ago. The cars can use RFID to track one another, and computer technology is good enough to allow guests to approve their destinations well in advance. It would also bring a very valuable technological advantage to the DCA resort, and give both Disneyland and DCA world-wide TV coverage (just like in the old days).

I know Disney is bringing back the red-trollies...but has everyone at Disneyland forgotten what the Monorail was about???

Somebody has to have the balls to take a risk. DCA has already failed once, when Eisner cheaped out and gave us the New Jersey State Fair instead of a park. Don't make the mistake again, build something unique, that we (as guests) and you (as proprietors) can be proud of experiencing together.
I agree. The Monorail definately needs to be expanded to include a stop at DCA. Al Lutz hinted that the curent Monorail route might be moving.. and I thought I read somewhere that long-term plans for the Resort include adding a DCA stop?

From Al's 10/18 "Elephant Acknowledged" column
Moving down the street, you pass under the art deco bridge that hides the monorail beam. This bridge won't be too much of a focal point however, as the long term plans for transportation around the Resort may have the monorail moving from that circa 1961 path.

I second that motion. This thread is just too useful not to.

In the future, when Disney decides to reach into their bag of goodies and stir up the media with another DCA announcement, questions about what was confirmed from previous announcements are only going to increase. We need a quick reference guide comprised of everything we know up to this point, and ta-daa, here it is!

Thank you so much for doing this, MG. I hope that the admins. will make this thread a Sticky Thread so that it could help people a lot while keeping the thread alive and current.

Btw, were you the one who faded the images for each area into each other? They're absolutely amazing!

I've said this before, but I really think the monorail through the front of DCA needs to go so the monorail trains exiting Tomorrowland can head over to Garden Walk hotels, Third Theme Park, go around the back side of CARS LAND and Paradise Pier, or even smack dab through the middle of DCA somewhere, and then go up to the Downtown Disney Station. As for that overpass vacated by the monorail and the "right of way" of the monorail in the north end of DCA, make this the new "right of way" for the DCA Railroad that we talked about before. Remember WALT LOVED TRAINS that's the whole genesis of how Disneyland came into being.

Interesting idea. But wouldnt a DCA Railroad be a little too similar and a bit redundant with the Disneyland Railroad mere steps away?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

No I don't think so because the DL RR would continue to be a steam train, this would showcase some other kind of train or trains. It could be all California Zephyr style, or some from each of the main railroading eras of the 19th -20th Centuries. Kind of like a moving Travel Town. Walt would be pleased!

Check out this thread, on the last page there's a map of the proposed route.

A great write up and great graphics. This information should be made sticky on the board.

The California Zephyr would be very cool. And yes, Walt would be very pleased.
