Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I think it needs a new color scheme. The actual structure is not that bad. The carousel itself is very nice though.

"California Screamin's queue is still getting some new theming though, right?"
Last i heard the screamin queue and coaster IS scheduled to get some enhancements

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I thought I had heard that the carousel would likely be moving nearer to the the new Mermaid Grotto area and recieve a new victorian structure to house it. Last I heard much of this was still being played around with and designed, but apparently the imagineers are considering moving just about anything in PP that can be moved, depending on the final layout the come up with.

Al said they had been debating whether to do the same thing with the orange stinger, and decided against it in that case. So we can only assume simmilar decisions are being made right now in regard to the other fair and "kiddie" attractions.

One thing I'm very curious about is exactly where the "Mermaid Grotto" area will be and how big it will be, and whether, in the end, it will be considered part of PP or not. It seems like it would be going in the space between the Little Mermaid Ride and Goofy Flight School (MM) but that removes it from Ariel's Grotto so I don't know if that makes sense. I also am curious how the viewing area for world of color will integrate into all of this since it also will be in the same general space. Do you think it will be an open series of terraces simmilar to the fantasmic viewing areas?

Another question, has anyone heard anything about remodeling Ariel's Grotto? Hopefully the project there will improve the facade to fit the victorian time period and remove the tacky metal decorations like those on the carousel. Really, I'd just scrap that little area and retheme all of it and move the enrance to PP closer to screamin'. Then that area could be given over to a San Franciso theme that I've heard might expand into that area.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

So, how does the Little Mermaid fit into Paradise Pier? Is it part of the Victorian amusement pier theme in that there were sometimes nautical-themed dark rides at such piers?

BassBone-

That's my impression, so I think it will be Mermaid's Grotto at Paradise Pier, but I'm not sure...

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

If so much "mermaid" is going into Paradise Pier, I wonder if that means Ariel's Grotto area next to Tommorrowland will go bye bye for something else?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I don't think they need bother to touch King Triton's Carousel. I think (currently) it's the best themed thing in Paradise Pier. Plus it already features Disney characters. So it's fine as it is.

And by "characters" you mean King Triton?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

Personally I'd like to see them get rid of the carousel that's there right now and build a double-decker somewhere along the pier. One location I can think of would be where the Golden Zephyr is currently located.

Everything from the golden dreams theater building and around the bay will now be part of Paradise pier.

So technically the mermaid attraction and possibly a grotto built near its entrance will be part of that land.

Ariels Grotto restuarant is being considered to be renamed, that is not final.

The restauarant is also scheduled to get some enhancements including enclosing the bottom eating level.

The orange stinger has been debated to stay and just be rethemed later it was decided to be removed. Things are not final yet on its outcome.

The zephyr was the attraction considered movement but at the momment will remain in its location.

The area between the soon to be added ariels grotto and Mullhullond Madness are future expansion areas. Mullholland madness although most likely getting some enhancement, is also in the consideration box for a future attraction spot. Jumping jellly fish and water play area will be removed and consider future attraction area.

I don't think you understood my question. How does the Little Mermaid ride fit into the theme?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

well besides it having a nuatical theme, it was not unusual for midway parks to have references to Mermaids. Many of the old seaside parks had somekind of mythical references to mermaids living in our ocean.

Some parks even had dance areas completely themed around the mythical creatures.

It really was not unusual to see midway parks that had an eclectic mixture of attractions ranging from haunted darkrides with cars that look like rats to attractions based on gargoyles and dragons and of course sea serpents and mermaids.

Even coney Island has a yearly Mermaid parade (although not very family friendly)

So what better way to add that eclectic feel of sea creatures and mythical mermaids then to use one of the most beloved characters from the re-incarnation of Disney's animation empire
