i agree with the name changing from HPB to Hollywoodland. HPB sounds too familiar with universal backlot. PLUS Hollwoodland sounds totally better

well I was opposed to the hollywood land idea but after reading these recent posts it would be a good fit with the overall re-theme of the area

I've always been in favor of the title Hollywoodland over Hollywood Pictures Backlot since year one of the park. I was more in favor then due to the reason the Disney label Hollywood Pictures put a pause in financing films just after DCA opened. Their last well known film was M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense. A few more movies after Sixth Sense is when they stopped financing films, putting their more ambitious projects under Touchstone Pictures. As of recently Hollywood Pictures showed its head again and started financing Disney's more edgy/teen films (the films they didn't want to put under Walt Disney Pictures or Touchstone Pictures). That all went away when Walt Disney Studios changed their primary focus to releasing less movies a year and more Disney branded features. This pretty much marked the end of the Hollywood Pictures label.

So why have a land named after a virtually dead studio or share the same name?

It's time to focus on the character of the land and add more thematics and detail to the story of the land, rather than just trying to recreate a location of the state. The title of Hollywoodland not only was a real label and title in the state's history, but it also is reminiscent to the lands in Disneyland, where the prefix before -land is the land's theme and character.

Never knew this was happening...but TOY STORY? What would be wise is if they brought the now-defunct BEAUTY AND THE BEAST from New York or that tour of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and put a PRINCESS AND THE FROG musical in Fantasyland.

1. Beauty and the Beast musical is a full length production. It would be too much to bring that to DCA for so few guests and will reduce the market value of the tickets when it does tour again.

2. High School Musical would not work for a major theater show. Maybe teens would like it though.

3. Princess and the Frog hasn't been completed so it's too early to produce a musical for it.

4. Toy Story Musical is complete. And so far from the songs I've heard, it's better than the Finding Nemo musical. 2009 is next year. It's pretty soon.

ok not tacky. I haven't been on that side of the park enough to label the sign that. I really just think that the sign is something you'd expect to find at universal or something. But i like the actuall hollywood idea rather than backlot

because....It's a park about California.... a new film for Soarin'? sure! that would be great! and I'd support that! but how exactly would this make any sense?
