There are no other rides like this outside the Disney brand and it should be at WDW. I only wish they had produced a different film for Florida; I realize it was a monetary decision not to do so.
sorry to be un-clear, but I meant that the general public attention and media coverage seems more strong at WDW for Soarin', since it's well...WDW*sighs*

From a business POV it was a wise move to clone this particular attraction.
Sorry to bring it back to this, however, if WDI put effort into creating an original attraction in place of Soarin' that could pull in the same numbers and then NOT clone it at any of the other parks, that would encourage guests to visit multiple parks instead of just one because all the parks would have the same attractions. It does make sense for a single park to do it, but for the company, it drains the number of multi-resort visitors.

Not to try and act like a moderator or anything, but I so think these cloned ride comments don't belong as part of the DCA project thread. I created a thread recently where this discussion would be more appropriate which I have provided a link to below. I have some additional things to say about this but I'm going to post those comment there and suggest that others do the same.

Anyone have any photographic proof of this? Or are they coming down tonight?

Me and my g.f. visited Disneyland last week -- after spending a week and a half in Orlando in December -- mostly because of the rides and attractions that are exclusive to DLR. So yes, I think it works, and I assume that's the reason they haven't cloned everything. We live in Montreal, so Florida is much closer to us than California, but we couldn't ride Indy, Mr. Toad, California Screamin', etc. in Florida.

The area will be open tomorrow (Thurs). They came down Wednesday after the park closed.

Hello everyone!! Long time (very long time) reader 1st time posting. I don't think that anyone has touched on this. Once Carsland gets underway I’m guessing that the remaining Tamon parking lot will no longer be used for guest parking. Right? If this is so then that would mean that the Tamon drop off and pick up area will become obsolete. This would give DCA a good chunk of land to expand Hollywoodland. Bulldoze the old Millionaire building and you now have yourself some good real estate. Can anyone say UPDATED Great Movie Ride!!! Has anyone heard anything about this part of the park???????

Here it is Thursday after 1:00pm and we don't have pictures yet on the website?

I'm losing faith in all of you.

I agree they should use the space behind Hollywoodland (if they tear whats there down) but I'd like to see a DCA version of Rock'n Roller coaster if they did. Maybe there's enough room for both!

And welcome to MiceChat!

Well there are a couple of aspects to this from what I’ve heard. First, is that part of the Lion King lot will remain until some future phase of expansion. So I don’t think the Lion King tram area will be abandoned for a while. The second is that I’ve heard TDA really wants another high end hotel in that location so that they could provide another entrance to DCA from this new hotel near Hollywood and Dine. Supposedly WDI has done some work for a hotel that looks kinda like the Hotel de Coronado in San Diego that has a grand frontage on Harbor and some sort of big walk-thru or under design for pedestrians to walk from Harbor into the esplanade. I agree though that it would be cool if they could add some of this land to the park. I’m pretty sure nothing had been finalized, so who knows what will really end up happening.

That would be great but at the moment the timon tram drop off and most of the shuttle area is being considered for a possible new Disney Hotel

EDIT: I really should read all the posts before answering. Looks like Uncle Bob placed an answer to the above comment made by Mad Duck

Yes to Rock'n Roll Coaster, except with a Californian band, say Red Hot Chili Peppers? Or how about System of a Down?
