Dude! (Or Dudette)

Just got back from a 5 day trip to DLR from Orlando and the Boudin Bread Factory was one of the best parts of the trip! The video does need some updating though.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I'm totally okay with little offerings like the Tortilla Factory and the Boudin Bakery if they actually serve more purpose than just showing us how it's done. If the restaurant uses the goods, then I think it's great.

DCA was just lacking in so many OTHER things that these little attractions attracted a lot of negative attention. I believe that when DCA fills out better, those little things will be looked upon with greater appreciation and fondness.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

Tortilla Factory and the Boudin Bakery are neat things to see, the process of it all. But the history of the food, especially the Tortilla Factory are lame; forcing us to listen to annoying movie thats not even funny or interesting and makes me cringe while listening to it.

I'd rather have some spaceship earth style displays to look at, but you move on a conveyor belt (since there is no room for a full on ride vehicle/track)

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

I thought I had read some reports a few weeks ago that the Timon parking lot was already being prepped for construction of Carsland. But it looks just like it always has and it appears it will still be used as a lot.

What, if anything, did they do recently, and when will they start tearing up the asphalt?

Not yet. Prep work will start in July. I never thought it would take 4 years build 1 land considering the fact that Disneyland was built in 9 months.

Yeah, but if it is built as planned, it would be the largest concrete project ever done by Disney, even exceeding TDS. The scale of the Carsland is massive, thats if doesn't get trimmed down. Something like this will take a while to build.

I highly doubt that.

I believe they're using the Boudin sourdough dinner rolls at all the Disneyland restaurants, and the boules for all the Chili and Gumbo and Chowder "In a Bread Bowl" dishes all aroundf the Resort. And I'm sure that Napa Rose and the other finer restaurants don't have to do their own baking and still get really fresh sourdough.

Not sure if they're using the Mission tortillas at Cafe del Zocalo or other DL locations besides the Cucina Cucamonga, but they probably are. They're running the line, might as well use them.

(Is the Flour Line setup to do the bigger 10" or 12" 'Burrito size' tortillas? Just realized I've never seen them making them, or asked...)

If they can make the space, might be nice to put in a small continuous fryer, so they can make nacho chips too.

Are you sure? I would imagine that if Boudin was supplying the bread for the other dining locations like the French Market or Royal Street Verdana then it would say on the menu or the dining location would be "Hosted by Boudin Bakery." Likewise with Mission Foods and Rancho del Zocalo.

The Pacific Wharf Cafe, for example is listed as featuring Boudin bread on the official website, but Royal Street Verdana does not mention Boudin.

Likewise, Cocina Cucmonga is hosted by Mission Foods and features Mission tortillas, but Rancho del Zocalo is hosted by Ortega and does not note Mission tortillas on the website.

That's dude. And I don't want to visit a bakery (unless it's to run in for a snack) or find out the history of tortillas, either.

But the other restaurants are not being "Hosted by..." anyone else if they're buying the products from a vendor at normal prices.

It just happens that the vendor's plant is a working 'show factory' inside one of the parks, and the delivery truck is the little Isuzu FC Box Van I often see parked in the Boudin in-park Loading Dock. (Just to the north of the flour silo.)

I haven't tried to get any confirmation (and I should - but where to start?) but it's the kind of Synergy thing that would be insane if they didn't do it. That "little" plant has enough capacity to supply the attached Cafe, the entire DL Resort, and a dozen other restaurants if they run it at full capacity.

You want to get boys interested in cooking? Tell them it's "Food Chemistry" with reagents and phase changes and heat reactions... And unless it ranks an Epic Fail you get to eat the results of the experiments.

Kids need to know that food doesn't magically appear on the Grocery Store shelves, or when the Dominos delivery driver rings the doorbell. And making Bread and Tortillas are the first step in the process...

Yeah, it's not all that thrilling. But you have to do some boring things during the week so you can have fun on the weekend.

I would imagine Disneyland is insane then, because I'm sure that Boudin and Mission Foods would want some sort of brand recognition provided if Disney was using their products from their in-park facilities at park dining locations that the companies aren't hosting/sponsoring. Don't Mission Foods and Boudin foot the bill for the venues their attractions occupy, and the restaurants they host and/or provide products for? Seems like if they were providing products for other dining locations, they'd want their logos at those other locations, too.

Yup. Boudin supplies the bread bowls for Royal Street Veranda and French Market at least. I think it was because of that (silent) partnership that a Boudin location inside DCA made sense.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker

It could be Disney is insane. Or they could be buying the goods at a fair price, and have no obligation to note any sponsorship that doesn't exist at the Disneyland restaurants, and it might even interfere with Ortega and Stouffers' deals.
