Re: The Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland

I have been playing with doing a Natures Wonderland model and have been collecting images up. Actually I want to build some of my favorite rides but may do them in different years ie changes. If I do Natures Wonderland I want to include stages, Mule rides and a few other things so I am thinking somewhere near 1959ish. However that would take out some other parts of the ride so I may do it after the remodel. I think during the remodel they added at least one building to the town. Right before the first Tunnel at the entrance the opera house is the building in question. Another reason I want to do the earlier ride is because no one is doing it

Re: The Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland

I don't think they have the acreage in DCA for a believable "Natures Wonderland" Steam train. I wish they did...

Re: The Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland

Seeing this thread brought back a lot of fond memories (albiet fuzzy due to being so young) of this extinct attraction. This was my favorite ride... I was always facinated with the rainbow caverns and the tipping and rolling rocks and funny cactus characters.

I dug out my old Disneyland Collector TIN dvd and took some screen caps for those who did not have the opportunity to ride the attraction..but have seen some of the remnants of the track and want to visualize a little more of what was and now is....

--The lonely tunnel that NOW leads nowhere along the Big Thunder Trail....

Looked like this..... (notice the pack mule attraction going over the top... and the bear in the water....)

These are overhead shots of the waterfalls that once were and you can see the geyser area along the top...

Those are awesome Then and Now shots. It's like the Disneyland I never knew... *sigh*

Thanks for the great pics. Love the 'before and after' shot of the tunnel.

Re: The Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland

Here's a nice photo I found of the Rainbow Caverns section of the ride:

This is the only photo I've ever seen that actually shows a train in the Caverns.

Re: The Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland

I remember it and I remember that I LOVED IT!

You can still see remains of it around the area and even the remains of it are cooler than that BIGTHUNDERMTN thingy that replaced it!

Yes it could have been updated but instead it was the mentality of the time to destroy anything creative that suspended reality and transported you to another world and replace it with a rollercoaster or wildly gyrating something or other which A. small children, grandparents and disabled CANT ride on! and B. kill people........

hmm not sure thats what Disney had in mind when he came up with the idea for a magical place the WHOLE family could enjoy TOGETHER.......
