    Question Roger Rabbit???

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me why Roger Rabbit can now only be found on his ride? I heard there was some sort of licensing or rights issue, but I haven't heard much. I just used to see him in parades, and in Fantasmic! on the Mark Twain next to Buzz and Woody and Pluto, etc on the back... and just walking around the park! Where has he gone????

    Re: Roger Rabbit???

I don't think the lack of his character in costume is attributed to the rights and clearances because I have seen him on some random Fantasmic shows and they still have tons of Roger Rabbit and Jessica Rabbit pins quite often.

I think moreso that the powers that be don't feel he's popular enough to send out?

I really wish I had the right answer for you as I'm curious myself.

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" was produced by Touchstone, which Disney owns entirely. So all the characters are owned by Disney as well. They are just not as marketable today. Kids who come to Disneyland know Stitch and Buzz and all the current stable of characters. That's where the money is.

    Re: Roger Rabbit???

Genie stole the role Roger Rabbit played in the park. Heck he even took the role roger had in spectromagic directly heh. But as far as I can tell that's why. Any instance where you want that Roger Rabbit type of character's presence, Genie fit and they used him instead. There just isn't room for 2 characters like that I guess. To a lesser extent Stitch has now taken Genie's role but it's not as much a direct character transferal as genie and roger were.

I remember seeing Roger Rabbit too....many years ago when my kids were young. I even remember during, I believe, the 35th anniversary year, when the characters from Dick Tracy used to walk the park! Too funny!!!!!

No, the film was produced by Disney AND Amblin (Spielberg) which is why there is such a lockdown on material. They shared the copyright on the characters. There is a bit of hollywood power brokering between the old Eisner and Spielberg camps. There is bad blood there...remember Katzenberg was the Disney side.. who left Disney in a ruff and went in on Dreamworks.

There is a bit of the story here http://www.filmbuffonline.com/Featur...RabbitII.2.htm

Remember... just because you distributed or produced a movie doesn't mean all the included content is yours. Much is often licensed.. usually with strict controls on its use.

I miss Roger. I did get a picture with him almost 12 years ago when on my Honeymoon. Our daughter (8years old) loves the movie and so wants to see him in Toon Town.

ORWEN: I just wish all that feuding between Amblin and Disney would stop so my favorite fluffy bunny could finally come out of his closet. It's not right to keep him locked up and away from his many fans like that!!! I remember all the good times us Cauldron girls used to have frolicking with him back in the late 80's and early 90's. (sigh)

Yah that was in 1990, two years after the film came out and he was still hot and they still made cartoon shorts to play in front of movies like Honey, I shrunk the Kids, Dick Tracy, and one other movie I don't recall.

    Re: Roger Rabbit???

I heard from a CM that according to some in-depth research, Stitch is actually the most terrifying character in the park. Look at those teeth, yikes! Kids have warmed up to a number of CM's dressed as witches, but they seem much more stand-off'ish when confronted by that blue alien with weird hair and pointy teeth.

I have not seen the numbers, but they are out there. Disney does a study on just about everything.

Do I miss Roger Rabbit... yeah, but I'm not overly upset that he isn't around. If you had started a thread petition asking to bring back Jessica Rabbit I would have signed on in a heartbeat.

There was a thread that became an ostensible petition to bring Jessica into the park..
