Paradise Pier To Get Both "Goofy's Flying Academy" coaster and Ratatoullie dark ride?

It was kind of a let down for me when news broke that Goofy's Flying Academy would replace Mulhalland Madness. Perhaps many of you felt the same way - especially when it had been previously rumored that a superior Ratatoullie themed coaster would replace MM.

Well, there may be hope yet for the Ratatoullie ride. So, hang on to that double mocha latte. In Glendale's recent DCA expansion announcement, the company indicated the space to the east of MM (where the corn dog stand and sunglass store are) will be held for future expansion. A Ratatoullie indoor dark ride/coaster could readilly be designed for and fit into this area.

The Goofy coaster might be cool as well. It sounds to me that guests will swoop up and down and buzz around in airplanes. We just might get both rides.

Tell me what you think. Let's take a survey of your opinions (will be up soon).

A French rat has no place on a Southern California pier. If a Ratatouille attraction is built, it should only be built at the France pavillion at Epcot's World Showcase as there is no room for it thematically anywhere else. And I don't even know if there is room for it back in the World Showcase...

Also, Goofy's Sky Skool isn't a new attraction. Its merely a re-theme of Mulholland Madness. From my understanding, the ride itself won't be changing, just the theming.

The Goofy attraction sounds like a quick fix to me, and not something intended to last for very long (though I could be wrong in my assumptions). But I think it will be quite nice to have it Goofy-themed, as there's so much that could be utilized through that idea.

Here's my issue with Ratatouille. It's a wonderful film, no question in my mind, and has the opportunity to be something quite exciting in terms of coasters. The one problem is it's "California". If California is eliminated, as it is being strongly hinted, then-by all means!

This is the area we are talking about here.

Then I think that with the GCH DVC Expansion and the Little Mermaid dark ride, that there probably won't be enough room to fit a Ratatouille ride in there, not to mention throwing off the theming of the area. It would be surrounded by Goofy's Sky Skool and the Little Mermaid.

Now, if it was next to the proposed Beer Garden, it would be somewhat better theming-wise.

Great arial view! Thanks. The Little Mermaid ride is going to be buuilt in the San Francisco area and not Paradise Pier. Therefore, the land that it will encompass will have no bearing on the PP section of the park.

As stated in my original post, a new ride could be placed to the east of Mulhalland Madness, where the hot dog stand and sunglasses store currently exist. Of course your photo does not show available space there now, due to the fact that it is occupied by the two aforementioned shops.

Yes indeedy! As intrigued as I am over a Ratatoullie themed ride, their are endless possibilities as to attractions that could be placed into the freed-up space for future expansion.

As pineapplewhipaddict has expressed, a Ratatoullie ride would be out of step with the current California theme, unless it changes - and it very well could. Whether the ride would fit the overall park theme or not, the Ratatoullie ride.restaurant sounds so good that I hope it comes to DCA no matter what.

I disagree over Goofy's Flying Academy or Goofy's Sky School. Each of these rumored names heavily indicate that the ride vehicles would resemble planes rather than cars. Disney strongly desires to change the perception of the park and pack more people in who want to spend more time there. Mearly altering a ride name would be cheep, cheesy and the complete opposit of what Glendale, Lasseter and virtually everybody else at disney are trying to accomplish.

Thank goodness that Pressler is gone - forever.

The Ratatoille ride was going to be a major attraction/restaraunt that would have taken up the place where MM, the Sunglass shack, and the corndog stand currently occupy. Unfortunatley, that attraction wasn't green lit...

Since no plans for Route 66 have been announced, and
nothing major seems to be announced, other than redoing
a viewing area for the new watershow, it would be better
just to leave Mulholland Madness as is, until they can decide
on some sort of cohesive idea for the entire R66 area.

Just turning MulMad into Goofy's Barstormers is a blasted
waste of money. It is a little un-nerving that so few
NO good ideas have been floated for HALF of the area that
surrounds the giant useless puddle. Why can't we see something
as exciting as they have planned for the entry???????

Something is destined if not earmarked to go into the remaining area. Perhps Disney will figure out a way to free-up even more land in this vicinity for a full-fledged major attraction such as the Ratatoullie ride/restaurant. How cool it would be if the ride actually travelled thru or in view of the restaurant - similar to Pirates and the Blue Bayou.

As far as Goofy's Barnstormer, I will hold my breath and judge it when it is done, and not before. I love the Rat, but thematically speaking he has no place in DCA. Then again neither does a Dutch Mermaid. I'm sure someone will post that it is a sea theme, and technically under that guise they would be right. When looked at in that manner you can then claim that the rat is merely a restaurant theme, and thereby sneak it in.

    Ratatouille ride? AWESOME!

That would be so interesting, going through the house, rat colony, sewers, in between the walls, kitchens, etc. Such a great ride, I hope they do it right.

Let's look at another aerial (this one and the other were taken from Live Local's Bird's Eye view, btw)

The area in the box represents roughly where the GCH expansion is. If MM were to stay, there would be no room for another ride.

Now maybe if MM were to go, which I doubt, there would be room for the Ratatouille ride, or something else.

Right, the ride vehicles might be cosmetically changed to look like planes, which would be part of a re-theme, not a new attraction.

Take a look at the concept art:

You can see a ride vehicle on the track, which actually doesn't look like a plane at all. Also, the queue looks to be enclosed, and the big "cardboard-cutout" roadmap from Mullholland Madness is still there, except it has huge Goofy comic strips on it. From this small piece of concept art, the ride still appears to be a wild-mouse coaster, and the ride itself still appears to be outdoors.

It's just a re-theme for Mullholland Madness. Not a new attraction.

The attraction wasn't green lit as far as we know. The only information that we are privy to is the fact that it wasn't announced. Disney can take a notion to announce the attraction officially whenever they take a notion.

Goofy's Sky School could, as they say, just be a temporary re-theming of MulMad. If this were to be the case, the Mul Mad area could later be incorporated into the Ratatoulie ride/restaurant attraction.

If disney has to "sneak" the rat and the Dutch Mermaid into DCA, I'll welcome them with open arms and a FastPass in my hand.
