I invited one of my beginning students since the flyer I got in the mail said "all levels." Could a beginner really do this?

If they use the standard Tuba Christmas music, and my memory serves me correctly; Yes, a beginner could do this. I'm confident I could do this and I haven't picked up a tuba in 7 years.

Yes. A beginner would be good on either the second euphonium part or the first tuba part.

What a fun event! Can't make it this year. Definitely putting it on my agenda for '08! Let me kow what song(s) that you all play. Good luck on succeeding with making the world record.

Hope somebody makes a quality recording of this and puts it on YouTuba. Hey BaseBone! Maybe you can do a follow-up YouTuba video report right here on MiceChat.

I am sooooooo going to be there... I've been meaning to go since I started playing tuba! Hopefully I'll get to bring our new tuba. His name is Antonio. He has rotor valves.

Made reservations last night to come down from San Jose. We preordered the music so my son could get a look at it beforehand. It's on the Tuba Christmas web site but their office is closing next week until after Christmas.

The music is not especially difficult. It's designed to be sightread by a large group of people of different ability levels. I think your son should be fine. Email Pat the organizer of the event and see if you can reserve a copy of the book from him.

Just bumping this thread to remind everyone. Be there or be square! Heck, we're tuba players... Being square is part of the package.

Forget 76 Trombones, How about 800 Tubas performing at Disneyland? LA Times

This is from the LA Times yesterday.

    Disney Christmas: 800 tubas tubaing

Nothing says “happy holidays” better than 800 tuba players bleating and blorting out Christmas songs.

Tuba Christmas will perform a free concert at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Downtown Disney, the Anaheim outdoor shopping mall next door to Disneyland.

The nonprofit consortium of tuba and euphonium players got its start in 1974 at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza. Since then, the all-volunteer group has performed dozens of concerts annually across the United States.

Organizers hope to set a world record with 800 players. For interested musicians, it’s BYOT. Registration is at 8 a.m. with rehearsal at 11 a.m. in the mall’s parking lot.
