Observatron Speculation THIS IS PURELY SPECULATION,
but could the recent usage of the observatron be testing to see if they could use the current structure to put the astro jets back on top of the people mover launch. think about it, this thing hasn't been used in at least, two years, why bring it back now, why not on the 17th, why now. ??????. plus, the observatron is just dressing over the old astro jets platform, they could easily strip it off and put the jets back on.
your thoughts?
My guess is that Matt wants to get empty space used for something.. (and the imagineers wanted to test and see if it still worked.. and in the meajn time use it for decoration... then find a way to see if a newer one can fit up there to hold more rockets.. and see if anything will happen...)
of course that is just speculation...
well, why not use what you have. it is less money, and you get the nostalgia factor. the original, the best. then you free up the entrance space to TomorrowLand. It just, for some reason seems logical.
I would guess that Matt didn't see a point in having all that junk sitting up there if it wasn't at least doing something. A temporary fix for a problem that can't be solved right away.
It would make sense, though, that an additional component of getting SOMETHING moving on that platform would be testing the equipment and making sure it still works. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the Observatron will be replaced with a ride sometime in the near future.

I was suprised when the Observatron began rotating during the meet, music and all. Perhaps they are having the mechanism groan to life to see if it is still working.
I dunno about any of you, but being excited about the space junk that is the Observatron seems unnatural.

Maybe he was turning it back on because it's bad show to have it not moving. It doesn't mean the old ride is coming back. It means Matt wanted what was there working.
The Rocket Jets won't ever return...the mechanism on top of Rocket Tower Plaza won't hold the non-existant cars (they were sold on eBay). If anything moves up there, it will be the Astro Orbitor (which I think is a kewler name and look anyway...the one at WDW's Magic Kingdom would look great at DL (same can be said for the decidedly blue-er version at Hong Kong DL)).

IMO, it fits the new Tomorrowland color scheme of silvery whites and blues much better than the golden/brown rockets and sculpture with planets that we have as of now.
it was on on my birthday last summer- august 16th... not 2 yearsi have a drunken video to prove it 'cause i got all excited and attempted to film it... we call it the "big nothing" because it turns on and eveyrone looks at it and it really does nothing... and we like when it does nothing... but it really sucks when it's not doing anything like it has been all 101 on and off over the past few years...

that's really strange that WDW's is spelled Astro Orbiter and DL's is is spelled Astro Orbitor...the former doesn't look right at all. Maybe turning it back on was an accident. The landscaping CM's thought that switch was for the sprinklers.
