Disney's Heart of Gold

Hi guys, I hate internet junk as much as anyone, but this was in the paper today and I texted and got Disney's reply. It's even being promoted on their website : http://disney.go.com/disneyhand/heartofgold/homepage.html . It's an easy way to share the spirit of the season, and hey, Cinderella's going to call you! Happy Holidays, all!
"60 years ago, Toys for Tots delivered their first toys to needy children in the Los Angeles area. Since then, they have distributed over 370 million toys to over 173 million needy children all across the United States. But did you know their logo was designed by Walt Disney? It was created back in 1948 and is still in use today. Disney also designed the original promotional poster as well.

The Walt Disney Co. continues to support the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Now through December 17, you too can support Toys for Tots via Disney’s Heart of Gold charitable campaign. Just text message “HEART” to “27138” and Disney will donate $1 for every text message received (normal messaging fees may apply, maximum of $50,000 donated, see website for additional restrictions and official rules). In return, Cinderella will call you the next day between 9am and noon PST. Additionally, you will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes for a grand prize of assorted Disney Princess products plus a $10,000 donation to your local Toys for Tots chapter.

This is a chance for all of us to make a little difference in the life of a child this holiday season. For more information or to donate visit Toys for Tots or Disney Princess Heart of Gold Campaign."

I'm sorry this isn't exactly Disneyland-specific, but I rarely make posts in any other forums and I know some folks only read here!

Re: Disney's Heart of Gold

I think that's pretty cool. Thanks for relaying the info. I didn't know about the Walt & Toys for Tots connection. Just makes me have an even more warm and fuzzy spot for the man in my heart. Speaking of that connection, does anyone know if DL has collection bins at the park (or at DTD for that matter)?

Interesting considering what happened on the Fourth. It seems Disneyland no longer supports the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive and won't have any drop off points on Resort Property at least this year. No Marines allowed to take donation either. Sounds like Grinches run Disneyland now. And this is something Walt Started! Shamefull.

There are most definitely drop off points at the entrance.

I didn't see any when I was there on the fourth. There is a thread in the meet section that explains everything about what happened on the fourth.

Just did this. Thanks for the info! Also, they did do Toys For Tots for the cast parties this yr. They did not hand out pins like they have done the past 2 yrs I have attended.

Re: Disney's Heart of Gold

This has nothing to do with the topic - this picture just cracks me up to no end every time I see it. I totally stole it to send to my daughter and her kids.

Re: Disney's Heart of Gold

I always felt bad for the Marine Reservists in full dress blues standing in the boiling heat. Thankfully the few times I was in full dress it was at night, at the Birthday Ball.. I take that back we had a few inspections prior to each ball, but still it was only an hour or so not a full day in the heat! Sure the girls love the look, but those things are extremely uncomfortable! Also a tad embarrassing depending on your stack.

Walt did not start Toys for Tots...don't know where that got started. Yes, he help do the first campaign, but he DID not "Start" it.
