    Re: Some General Disneyland Questions

Thanks again to everyone who has responded--just a few more-
What was in (or on the site of) the Magic Eye theater from 1977-1987?
Where was the Flight Circle located?
Where were Space Station X-1 and Sattelite View of America in comparison to the Circlevision?
What was on the second level of America Sings?
Where was the original queue of Space Mountain (1977-1998)?
When did Cosmic Waves disappear (except for the marble)?
Where was the American Space Experience?
Is the Orbitron the actual internal structure of the Rocket Jets?
What were other changes in 1998 Tomorrowland?
When did the Space Place close?

    Thanks again!

Before the Magic Eye Theater, it was the Space Stage. The Magic Eye Theater came around in 1986 and ran Magic Journeys until Captain EO took over in '87. Before Space Mountain, it was still a stage. The People Mover track went over the stage area.

Originally, the 2nd floor of America Sings was home to the Progress City model when Carousel of Progress occupied the building. From what I've heard, the 6th section of the theater was where you got onto the stage and used a Speedramp to reach the vieing area (it was the 5th act of the show). When the Carousel of Progress moved WDW (or technically, returned to the east coast), the Superspeed Tunnel took the place of the model. The track's current alignment was the original 1967 alignment. With the Superspeed Tunnel, the track was realigned and, more or less, went through the center of the building. It was 1982 that the Tron Superspeed Tunnel replaced the original. From what info I gathered, the original tunnel used an F-1 racing scene (similar to the attraction's poster) and the 2nd used a speedboat race. The Tron version looped the footage seen used once Flynn was sucked into the computer so it seemed like you were zooming into the computer and the 2nd room used the game grid footage with the light cylcles as well as Recognizer footage.

If you search the internet (I know there's one on the worldwide Space Mountains) you'll see Speedramps in front of the attraction. If you look at it today, you'll see a sign marking the fictional Imagination Institute where Wayne Szalinski receives his Inventor of the Year Award. That is were the landing of the Speedramps were located.

The Observatron is the remnants of the Rocket Jet's mechanism. Sad to see her like that.

    As for Tomorrowland '98 changes:

Rocks added to the entrance of the land with the Astro Orbiter adding to the clutter.

The railing and glass panels you see on the old People Mover track were added.

Neon spires were added to the Star Tours and Rocket Rods (formerly Circlevision entrance now Buzz entrance). Another spire was added when converting the empty Carousel theatre to Innoventions.

Star Tours got a new extended indoor queue. That was originally the unload area of Adventures Thru Innerspace and had Monsanto displays.

Star Traders was remodeled as well as the Tomorrowland Premiere Shop (which uses old Rocket Jets for display shelves and PeopleMover checkout stands).

The north Mary Blair mural was covered over with a mural showing attractions of the past in its shapes and design.

Original structure on Tomorrowland Terrace's stage was replaced, then it changed again for Club Buzz, and how now since gone with a more futuristic looking planter-spire structure when Club Buzz converted back to Tomorrowland Terrace.

Slurried asphalt walkways replaced with pavers.
