Alcohol Sales application on display - for Disneyland

I noticed when I was leaving the part this evening - they had the notice of application on display near the front gate. Unfortunately I didn't have a proper camera with me. It's a request to get a license to sell alcohol in Disneyland. Next to the notice, they had posted a sign explaining that they have a catering division that handles special events and private parties, and that it was for those events that they wanted to be able to sell alcohol.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Right. It's so that the resort doesn't have to keep getting special permits for events and things like that. They won't be adding it to any of the restaurants, if that's what you were hoping

Interesting, especially that they had a sign next to it explaining what it was for.

So people wouldn't think Disneyland park itself would start selling alcohol.

It's all just legality of public notice. Nothing more.

They had to announce it to us CMs too when I had to do check-ins to other CMs. Bye.

My new weekly article at MiceAge, Monday at the Parks, will explain what is going, it should be up in just a few hours.....

But basically, it is an a adminstration issue, there will be no change in policy. Just easier planning for PRIVATE events.

Re: Alcohol Sales application on display - for Disneyland

Many year ago, Club 33's liquor license was amended to allow for catered events within Disneyland Park. These were primarily for special events such as Press Events, as well as contracted-out evenings, such as Enchanted Evenings and other private events where alcohol was served within the berm.

It could be that this posting has something to do with Disneyland Park itself applying for their own designation and license to handle such special events, separate from Club 33's previous umbrella.

That may be the current intent, but it could also lead to a Slippery Slope.

Once they have that ability without the necessity of the individual permits it's only a bureaucratic Hop, Skip, and Jump to using it "in just this one" case ....

Even if it was so they can sell alchohol in restaurants would that be a problem? Disneyland Paris has a policy where you are allowed one glass of wine or one bottle of beer with any main course, this seems to work very well and I have never seen someone there intoxicated.

    Blast! Foiled again.....

Sometime a couple beers would be just the ticket to ease the pain of once again getting mowed down by a stroller....

I can assure you, I absolutely was NOT hoping that. But I think it's a slippery slope.

Just look at the McDonald's fry cart thing... the slippery slope heory is alive and well at the Disneyland Resort.

Most amusement parks in Walt's time served alcohol. Now, why do you suppose he would open a park himself and purposely EXCLUDE alcohol? Do you suppose he, a drinking, smoking man of the 50's might have had a very good reason for it? Of course he did.

Especially in light of the DLP example, this is dangerous ground. At least with having to get special "date of" licenses for special events, there was no risk of it becoming a permanent thing. Not so much if they get a permanent one.

Re: Alcohol Sales application on display - for Disneyland

Please explain to me why having a glass of wine that complements the meal or, hell, if a parent who wants a bottle of beer with their pizza is a BAD thing? Not like its that hard for them to go to DTD and get plastered and go back in the parks. So if you were to do it in the parks and have a limit, Im sure there would be people that wouldn't make the trek to DTD for their alcohol.

And the "slippery slope" is a lame argument. If you want to use that one, then why hasn't DCA descended into a cesspool of alcoholics yet? You can get wine, beer and margaritas there. Or why haven't they figured out way to use 33's license to cover the whole park? They can for private events, so why not for public ones as well? Please find a move valid argument other than your unwillingness to see DL make a step towards their license being a little more legal and open.

Been there, done that. You know why it's not a cesspool of drunks? It's because no one but the 5 richest kings in Europe can afford a bar tab.
Let me paint the bar tab for me and my girl...
    2 beers, 2 shots + bartender tip = 40.00 bucks.

Now, assuming DL sold hooch in the park, i'd like to meet the person that goes in and get's absolutely plastered and shake his hand. Because i'll know that guy has more money than i'll ever know what to do with

    LOL!

Good point! It'd cost more than the admission ticket.

Anyone who really has to get drunk at Disney is an idiot anyways... it's just not the place for that to go on (meaning inside the park itself during a normal day, not talking about DtD or hotels). I'm glad DCA has kept the prices high. Plus you'd have a nice visit with security if CM's can tell you're plastered. I've dealed with guests who snuck in their own drinks and then got drunk, only to have Anaheim PD escort them away. Do they really think it's worth it? Does it make them look cool or something?? lol, strange.

Go to an "open bar" private party that a big company puts on at the park. All I can say is, wow, lots of crazy stuff goes on. Not fun as a CM having to work it.
