Even if the poll did include DCA, I'm not sure you could really justify TOT being the greatest achievement as it had already existed in WDW for a decade by the time it opened in DCA.

Relatively few Disney productions are original to the company, though.

From "Bambi" to Tom Sawyer's Island to "Mary Poppins", Disney has been willing to adapt material from other sources.

I kinda threw Splash Mountain in there because of it's outdoor flume elements, and to satisfy a few of those maniacs out there who love it. I didn't really expect it to get any votes, though (considering the distinguished company it is keeping). Go figure. I'll never understand you SplMtn fans .

This is really a great poll. I could find a reason to vote for any of them but the Fastpass system. I like it, but it's no milestone.

True, but we are talking about a contemporary franchise already established and owned solely by another company. It was a big step for Disney (that led to Indy's installment in the Park).

Re: DL's Greatest Achievement in its Post-Walt Lifetime

This was really a tough decision and I almost voted for IJA due to the fact that it really rekindled my interest in DL. However, I ended up voting for elimination of the ticket books.

I remember those books as a child. My grandmother would hold on to the tickets and when we wanted to ride something we would ask for the appropriate ticket. There was never enough tickets for the rides that we really wanted to go on and far too many for the rides we considered a waste of time. We always came home with unused A tickets.

The elimination of the ticket books opened the park up for me. I was finally allowed to enjoy the park however I wanted instead of my day being controlled by tickets.

It also allowed the individual to assign their own value to an attraction instead of it being predetermined for them.

Up until Everest opened in DAK I would have said that BTMRR was the best themed roller coaster ever built. Even so, I had to vote for Indy.

This is perfect, and exactly the consideration I was hoping for. You saw the choice that entertained you the most, but voted for the option that benefitted and impacted you the most. Thanks for the thoughtful post.

Speaking of tickets, does anyone remember when they had the tickets AND unlimited use? I remember having to use a safety pin to fasten the unlimited pass to your shirt while everyone else was tearing the old A-e.

Wow. I totally suddenly remembered that.

Yeah, I was so jealous of the people with the pass. Nothing like making sure we see Mr. Lincoln because all we had left was A tickets. LOL

Re: DL's Greatest Achievement in its Post-Walt Lifetime

I voted for Indy because it really shows how a new ride can be built, even if it was a movie tie in. If it was just the ride, I would have not rated it as highly, but the queue for the ride is exactly what sets Disneyland apart from the rest of the world's non-Disney Offerings. It showed that Imagineering, even those not hired by Walt (which is why I think of Haunted Mansion still part of his living legacy) still had the goods.

Re: DL's Greatest Achievement in its Post-Walt Lifetime

The HM only weakness is that portions of the queue are not as well themed as the Indy queue. That being said, Indy gets a few negative points for not being able to keep the pole and rope pulls working.

I give Indy the benefit of the doubt on that one. With kids tugging on it so often, it's bound to break.

Indy certainly has the popular vote; it appears to show no signs of losing ground.

Yes, with the recent disappearance of the 'pole effect', it probably shouldn't have even made the list.
