Not that Werner needs my confirmation, but I was a CM at the time and can tell you that the switch indeed was made in 1982.

December 22, 1954 The park was under construction!!! LOL

(But I did get to go the first official day it was opened to the public! Just don't really remember it. Apparently I was my parents excuse for them to go.)

Re: What was happening at Disneyland when you were born?

For those of you having trouble posting the info, you might try copying/pasting into Word (or similar program) first, and then copy/paste onto here. This has worked for a few people, and is what I did when I first posted. That was because I was assembling and editing everything first, and then putting it here; I had no problems.

    Hope this helps!

Re: What was happening at Disneyland when you were born?

Sept 9th 1965.... Upon hearing the news Sandy Kofax threw a perfect game for the Dodgers vs. the Cubs that day, little Timmy Jones threw his ice cream cone into the air causing a chain reaction of moderate disasters across the park, outside the park, across southern California and the western United States, leading to the election of Ronald Reagan as Governor of California in 1967 and the elimination of Ice Cream cones at DL for years to come.

Other than that for 1965 see the post above mine.

Re: What was happening at Disneyland when you were born?

September 4, 1947. There was no Disneyland. However, I do remember Walt Disney unveiling all his plans on television as I watched the Mickey Mouse Club, and the Wonderful World of Disney with Tinker Bell and her famous flight over Sleeping Beauty Castle. I grew up on Davey Crockett, Annette Funicello, and Spin and Marty.

I didn't get to Disneyland until it was 50 years old. Why did it take so long? Sometimes, I ask myself that very question. A combination of no money, and no traveling companions, I guess says it the best. When I did arrive, it was a trip of a lifetime.
