USC Trojan Marching Band~Tomorrow at 2:30

As most of us know, the football team was at the park yesterday. But tomorrow the TMB will be at the park at 2:30. In years past they have marched the entire parade route, but last year only put on a small show in front of the train station. I'd probably go to City Hall and find out details when you arrive tomorrow. They always put on a great show no matter where they are. Fight On!!

Have no idea if the Illini band will be there too, we'll soon find out.

Just FYI, the CM Reference Guides state that they will be doing a 15 - 20 min show at Town Square and then proceeding down the parade route in parade. Id still double check with City Hall though to make sure if you are going to see them.

We really want to go and see them, but we are worried about the park closing its gates early due to the holiday crowds. We can't get over there earlier (jobs you know).

I would be slightly concerned because playing music also involves reading and books... Well hopefully everything went well and the band played on... (insert random joke about USC here, I can't because I still trying to keep a straight face)

I got some GREAT photos of the event...

Had to laugh though, some of the USC parents were complaining, since they had to buy 2-day tickets (one day tickets were halted due to the large crowds) to see the show.

But the band did a GREAT show.. Fight On!

Virginia Military Institute was the marching band on the 28th before the Christmas parade, and they were very impressive. They had a huge band, plus bagpipes. They were perfectly attired, very formal, very profesional, regulation haircuts on everyone, spit and polish and pride on everything. Very, very impressive to see such fine young people with such clearly demonstrated dedication and profesionalism and honor.

Last time I saw the USC band at Disneyland two years ago they were sort of a boozy looking bunch without much polish, and lots of bravado instead of profesionalism. (Bravado is easy, profesionalism takes more work)

But seeing VMI come down Main Street tonight was a much different story. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

Alot of us found it ironic that one of the songs they played was a cover of The Offspring's 'The Kids Aren't Alright' which has lyrics that go

" Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn How can one little street Swallow so many lives"

Hearing that played on Main Street was a bit surreal, there was alot of laughing when we realized that was the song they were playing. We do wonder if it was intentional.

I remember years ago -- maybe 20 years ago -- we went to Disneyland for my cousin's daughter's birthday, on Dec. 28. We were eating in the North Solarium of the Plaza Inn about 5:30 when I heard something and I pointed and said "LOOK!" as the Big 10 marching band, in town for the Rose Bowl, was marching up the Parade Route toward Town Square.

I guess now they make an event of it. I liked the casual nature of a big marching band tootling up the Parade Route unannounced.

Not sure who it was, but hearing a marching band (High School) with a full compliment of bagpipes... that was a beautiful.

As to USC parents being upset about a 2 day pass I can understand, it costs a fortune to go to that school. I think the band should take a play from the school playbook and threaten to negotiate with Knott's for something better!
