Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle - Was it a win or lose in your eyes?

Video Link to the New Castle Nighttime Show on Youtube.com -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=vR3Yrq4y37k

    Hello MiceChatters!

For the past fifty years of its existence, Sleeping Beauty Castle remained fairly
plain when it came to being decorated for the holidays - be it a few pieces of
garland around the top of the turrets or a nice wreath at the center (or both).

However, this year, Disney surprised all of its Park guests when they unveiled to
us a whole new concept for the castle, titled as Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle.

For the 2007 Holidays, Park guests now find themselves looking upon a
snow-covered castle with hanging icicles and taking a witness to a most magical
sight at night when it comes to life in thousands of sparkling lights.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are a few pictures to refresh your memory
of what Sleeping Beauty Castle now looks like:

Likewise, this turret received no snow tarp

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, my question to all you MiceChatters is...

What do you think about this new holiday change to Sleeping Beauty Castle?

    Was it a good move?
    Was it a bad move?
What did you like about it?
What didn't you like about it?
Do you think it looks classy or tacky?
Would you like to see it come back next year?
What do you think Disney can do to improve it for next year?

I'd love, as I'm sure others would as well, to hear your thoughts!!

(I also added a poll in.)

    I'll be the first.

I just went to Disneyland on the 14th and, although I thought the Castle looked a bit...weird in the daytime - snow just looked totally flat and lifeless -, I absolutely loved it at night. It truly made it glisten and sparkle with magic.

I thought the icicles were incredibly tacky, though, and I hope they (Disney) get proper-looking ones for next time. (I also hope they cover the whole castle in icicles and snow and not just parts of the front.)

I also wouldn't mind seeing a whole Main Street covered in snow.

    Just my two cents.

It's a really good effect and the show is wonderful.

But, if you are going to do it, do it right...cover the whole darn thing so it doesn't look so dumb from Fantasyland!

ORWEN: Well, I agree with SHowardcpa, up there! I mean, when I get dressed in the morning, I make sure my back side is covered up just as much as my front side--

ORGOCH: --Well, Praise the Lord for THAT!! Sure don't ever wanna' have ta see YER blubber butt bouncin' 'round the streets a Morva!!

ORDDU: It was the same way in Florida for Cinderella Castle, though. It's as if those in charge of decorations at the parks think guests won't notice things from every angle. It's distracting and takes away from the over-all beauty of the castles for them to do just a half-baked job of it.

ORWEN: But what WAS decorated was very nice. I'm sure everybody's gonna' be expecting them to do this every year from now on.

I think it was the best I've ever seen.

If the rest of the park got the attention that the castle and IASW did for Christmas, it would be more than words could describe.

From the Main Street view, it was superb. From Fantasyland, it was lame. They should have put the decor all around the castle - not just the front part. That seemed 'half-a'd in my book. Not only that, there seemed to be little to no decor for Christmas in Fantasyland - which seemed odd.

I agree as far as our castles backside (Witches of Morva!) I didn't understand why nothing was done on the back, where everyone also can see.

I didn't get a chance to go to DL for Christmas. The lighting effect here in Florida was wonderful, and it looks like Sleeping Beauty Castle was as well. Ours didn't have so many decorations on it for the daytime, you could just lightly see the netting (it didn't interfere with the prettiness of the castle, IMHO).

I love it, it was near perfect. They need to hide those dangling lights by encasing them in "real looking" icycles - - if that's possible. It looks messy the way it is right now when you get up close to the castle.

I wish they would have added the Christmas trees around the castle or art the very least turn on the lights that are on the trees right now. I remember before the holidays they were testing LEDs on a full lit tree right next to the castle but they never turned on during the holidays.

The lighting needs to be a bigger spectacle and done once a night.

As long as you didn't get close. I could not believe how visible it all was when I was going to walk throuh Cinderella Castle. It looked worse than Paris' castle.

I was really close (and took even closer-up pics), but it looked better than I thought it would be. I haven't been to DLP at Christmas.

I think this was a good first try. However now they have learned their lesson and its time for some changes.
    1) During the day it wasn't so pretty as many of you have said.
    2) Also like Disneyland Daddy said the lights didnt go all the way around the castle!!! And the place at which the lights stopped in the back looked terrible!!
Lets hope they read our suggestions...

    C'mon everybody, here we go!

I guess I was not nitpicking it while I was there. I thought it looked nice. I was in fantasyland, but never once thought about the snow not being back there. I did not notice any half finished or unfinished stuff. I just enjoyed the castle.

Re: Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle - Was it a win or lose in your eyes?

I thought that Disney did a very good first try, but for next year, I think it could use a little tweaking.

The first thing that bothered me personally was going to the backside of the castle and seeing that the lighting did not continue. IMO, that came off a little tacky. Don't do it half-way; if the castle is covered in "snow" and "ice", don't do it just on the front of the castle...that really makes no sense.

Next, as some have suggested here on this board before, since we were expecting "icicles", we were expecting something to look more...icicly? As of now they're just holiday lights with some curl thing spiraling around them. I think the effect could be improved, and heck, the icicles could even light up on their own. If desired, perhaps continue the holiday lights around the icicle figure.

What's the most glaring, however, is that the decor does not sync up with the rest of Main Street's. While I believe that Main Street's current holiday decor is a beautiful match, it now does not with the castle. Instead of using the current scheme that's on Main Street, make Main Street covered in snow and ice as well...keep the garlands, but use a different color scheme that fits with the castle.

Other than that? I absolutely adore the new holiday decor
