Yes, there is Security that is seen and bag checkers who examine packages.

In addition the camera coverage is EXTENSIVE, both obvious and not-so-obvious. The people who monitor the cameras are watching individuals from the time they step out of their car or off the bus, all along the tram and through DTD and into the Main Entry area. They do not profile people, they profile behavior and they are well trained and very good at it. All areas of the Park are swept by Security and other divisions repeatedly.

Could someone get through with a device? Maybe, but they can do this anywhere.

However, I can promise you that the Security procedures here are a million times better than 99% of the other places in the US, including other amusement parks, where it is a joke.

So before you think you are so smart to find apparently obvious holes, think for a second that if you can find them, then Security and their Law Enforcement partners are a step ahead of you, whether you realize it or not.

Very good points, also consider Disneyland after 9/11 was considered by most law enforcement in So Cal to be a major if not the #1 terrorist target on the west coast. Not just because of the crowds but the mental/emotional effect it would have (the "terror") on people that weren't directly harmed by an attack. Along with that if there were someone researching and planning an attack on Disneyland this and the many other Disney fan websites and chat boards would be a wealth of info for them.
Please don't think that I'm bashing miceage/micechat. On the contrary these are the best sites on the web for Disney lovers. I realy enjoy both of them and in no way mean they should stop talking about the parks and what goes on there. Just giving some of you an idea of the things we don't consider when complaining about having to put up with tighter security. It was mentioned here before there is a lot more security that goes on behind the scenes that you don't know about. Some subtle hints are out there as to how elaborate and well planned out the safety at Disneyland really is. For people who have no experience in security and law enforcement they usually go unoticed, which is for the best. Disneyland has done an excelent job at protecting it's guests and will continue to do so. I for one would rather go through the song and dance of a check point and enjoy the rest of my day at My Favoite Place on Earth

I just know some check point CM must have 158 barely used pocket knives and nail clippers on ebay right now.

The bag check is widely regarded as a big joke with the CMs. As the story goes, the further you get to the perimeter of the property the more stupid the security measures become.

We always think its funny how hard it is to gain access to backstage areas thru the CM harbor point and TDA entrances, when anyone with half a brain knows that the easiest way for a disreputable person to slip backstage is to buy a ticket and walk backstage from within the park.

Sadly I am sure the bag check is here to stay, due to America's hyped-up terrorist security measures. I suspect it will be decades before we see those bag checks disappear. How silly, because the bag check really seems to be all about show, it's the resort putting on a show for guests, but in reality nothing is being checked with any consistency and thoroughness.

Last year, I brought a jar of queso dip, some chips, and a few packages of "party poppers" for a potluck celebration in the picnic area. I had to go through bagcheck, and guess what they were most concerned about?

The unopened jar of queso, because it was glass. They proceeded to ask me what was my "intent" with the jar and its contents. I said it was for eating later, and it would be placed in a locker at the picnic area until then. So, then they called for a security escort to walk me to the picnic area and observe me placing the bag of picnic goodies in the locker.

It wasn't until the potluck that I realized a funny "oversight": The packages of "Party Poppers" (those little plastic bottles that shoot confetti) were clearly labelled with, "Caution: Contains Explosive Material".

But, they were much more intent on studying my jar of queso that they pulled from the bag. So, it said to me - "Items containing gunpowder are ok, but they really frown upon glass jars of cheese!"

Like you couldn't have gone back 5 minutes later and gotten the glass jar back out of the locker and taken it into the park.

I know. And the whole time I was thinking about how many people passed through with pocket knives or guns during that time, and they wasted an extra security person over some cheese!

"Old Crow, this is Little Bluebird. We need an escort. She's got cheese. I repeat, she's got CHEESE!"

To all of those who posted how unsafe Disney is because of the Walmart greeters who look through your bags, I say " mind you own business!" If you want longer lines and the LAX effect, then Disney can do it. Right now we have a token bag check that already annoys most people, and you want more? Some people are just not happy unless they are griping about something. Leave it alone!

Oh, I'm not griping at all - I just find my experience with it to be funny.

You seem to think there are two choices....
1) Slightly annoying, just for pretend bag check.
2) Really annoying, full on security which terrorists would actually have to spend 10 minutes figuring out how to get past.

I see a thrid alternative....
3) Even with NO bag check, you'd be FAR, FAR, FAR safer inside Disneyland than in your car driving to Disneyland. Any bag check is a total waste of limited resources, and the money should be redirected into other efforts (like making the parks more profitable so that we'll get bigger capital improvement budgets).

I agree. Just remember who's 'turf' you're on. Think about how many years DL has had to know where the vulnerabilites are.
