Re: New Year's Eve 2008! News and Running Trip Report

This was our first NYE 2007 and NY2008 that my youngest daughter and her friend, and hubby and I spent inside Disneyland Park. My oldest daughter worked that night at DL, but we stopped by to wish her a Happy New Year. We arrived around 8:30am and stayed until 12:30am. It was 16 hours of fun. Yes it was crowded and windy but it was the best time I've spent in the park since the 50th celebration. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We met up with some MC friends at the hub at noon and we spent the rest of day just relaxing and taking our time to ride the attractions.

And for disneyguy115 we saw Suburban Legends at 8:30pm.

Here's a picture just for you. These guys are good entertainers.

They had some malfunction in the beginning of their performance but they continued after the correction.

Not only did we enjoy SL, I enjoyed the DJ and the music that was playing throughout the park.

There was also a rumor going around that Britney Spears was at the park. Not sure if she was spotted.

    At the end...

We received NY hats and horn blowers to partake in the celebration.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2008 will be a prosperous for everyone.

We were there all day yesterday, and it didn't seem nearly as busy as in the past. No Fantasmic! and Splash Mountain had NO line at 1145pm. My group rode it twice and were offered a third ride without getting off. They were soaked, but had shirts and sweatshirts to change into. It was a fun day.
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.

The REAL party was at Napa Rose - was anyone else there?
Yes, I was there all night. It was an EXCELLENT party. They cleared the lounge and had a great band. Lots of dancing. The champagne, wine, etc., just didn't stop. What was really cool was out on the patio, it was so windy, but those outdoor heaters warmed it up, and we weren't even cold at all. Sat out there from about 12:30 to 2:00 or so. Gotta hand it to that entire staff. They did one heck of a job!

I went for the past three days just for Suburban Legends. I got sick of the crowds yesterday and took the monorail to Downtown Disney around 3 PM, got a pretzel, went and saw "I Am Legend", got back in the park a little after 7:30, saw SL, left around 12:30.

If SL hadn't been playing, I wouldn't have even gone. I don't think I ever want to go to Disneyland when there's more than 12 people in the park at any time.

The DJ did the countdown, but the characters didn't go out on the Castle Balcony

I'm glad I spent from 9-12 in my hotel room, which I was planning anyway. They could have at least had some characters on the ledge....I don't know why the wind would cancel Characters ?????

Plus, they really should have had an actual clock---make it a real "Countdown" with all the bells and whistles.....if they weren't going to have a full fireworks.

They did flash "2008" on the side of the Castle (I have a picture coming of that), and that was up from 12-1...that I could see. By 2:15 am, when I checked next.....they'd taken that down, which makes sense...but they could have left it up as people exited on by.

Oh well. I got to see a traditional midnight show last year 2006-07. Last years, with full fireworks, and characters on the ledge is somewhere up on YouTube.

I'll say. The writer's strike has rocked Southern California and wreaked havoc with the economy. That, and the price increases, I think, are having an effect. The crowds, this year, were nothing like in 2005, for the 50th. That New Years, even with rain, was so crazy you couldn't even move. This year, you could move, slowly at times, but things still moved.

Last year's NY was far more crowded.

Thanks for the play-by-play posting of NYE at DLR!!! I really enjoyed. I echo the others; it makes those of us too far away get to enjoy the magic as well. I also want to wish k_peek_2000's dad the very best!!!

    Happy New Year everyone!!

They took it down at 2, when the park officially closed. They turned the castle lights back to their regular lighting so you wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. Makes sense to me.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Well I just got back from DL. I had the best time I have ever had on New Years this was my first year ever going and will start this as my tradition. Me and my husband and friends had the best time. We took turns holding our spot right in front of the castle. We had blankets and plenty of Churros. We where right next to the Turkey cart and the cast members their made it even better talking to us and giving us disney trivia. Even the security was so cool checking on us and talking it was so great I almost cried with the finale.Even though there was no fireworks it was still the best New years eve show I have ever seen. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did! Happy New years.
