Re: New Year's Eve 2008! News and Running Trip Report

The winds are starting to pick up here in Newport finally. But the aren't strong. However a breeze like this, if at Disneyland is enough to cancel the show.

I had to run an errand to Foothill Ranch (south inland Orange County) and it was breezy there but not too bad either. Although while driving there on the toll road there were a couple of gusts that literally pushed my car a little bit.

Looks like no fireworks for tonight.

Windy here in Garden Grove, just down the street from the Park.....keeping fingers crossed for all those staking out spots for tonight's show. Not looking good though.

Re: New Year's Eve 2008! News and Running Trip Report

Yeah, they played the "Due to unfavorable winds fireworks may be cancelled" message sat 6:30 - three hours before showtime. We decided to be brave and leave the park for some good food at the Cheesecake Factory.

If Disneyland is closed when we get out of Cheesecake Factory, we'll head over to DCA. Since there won't be fireworks anyway, it won't matter where I'm at - just as long as I can be in the middle of a countdown and have phone reception to call home

If I can contribute to this report...

I just got off the phone with TikiRoomLiz. She is having dinner at the outside seating at the Trattoria. Not only is it VERY windy it is also so cold she actually bought a TOT bathrobe to keep warm!

I was at Disneyland earlier today around 5pm, the parking structure was not full and parking was available on the top floor. Since it was very windy I decided not to spend New Years at Disneyland. Right now 3 miles from Disneyland it is so windy that I think of the trees in my yard may fall over. I believe there is a 98% chance of no fireworks tonight.

    "Believe" Fireworks cancelled!

I'm still at the Cheesecake Factory, but I'm getting news that around 7:30, The Voice of Disneyland announced that "Believe... In Holiday Magic" was cancelled.

I'm surprised because the show would have still been 2 hours out at that point. I've always seen that they wait until the last minute to break the final news - I guess not tonight!

I guess the New Year's Eve "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks are still not cancelled as of now... but it isn't sounding promising.

Yikes. I can only imagine how happy some visitors will be if they didn't hear that "Due to unfavorable wind conditions" message.

    Wind Chill.

Wow looks like my plan is working masterfully Bwahaha

people get so focused on the last few seconds of the year, they work hard to enjoy that moment of rollover, they wipe out all of thier energy, and I, as part of my master plan watch the NYE fireworks from treasure island (on SF Bay) and roll into DL in the wee morning hours and have the park all to ourselves (at least till 11 when u late night partiers start nursing that hangover) Bwahhah bwah hah hah heh heh h h heh *sigh*

But Danger awaits speed racer in the form of Drunk drivers and high winds.

Enjoy the music MasterGracey as Live music is the best part of NYE.

I certainly look forward to looking at the holiday wonderland in a few hours not this year but next see you in 2008 all a Merry Christmas and HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR hahaha bwahahha hahha heh heh hu *sigh*

PS love the updates it adds a fourth (or fifth) dimension to this trip from one year to the next

Here on the east coast I was told that Fantasy in the Sky was about to start if not already. I am crossing my fingers for everyone on the west coast at Disneyland that some miracle happens and they do the fireworks LOL

I'm sure they would do the countdown without any pyro though? Is there a plan b? I hope so we are about to ring in the new year here on the east coast in 10 minutes

    Happy New Year mice chatters

    Thanks for the update.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Re: New Year's Eve 2008! News and Running Trip Report

Just got back to the park. Main Street is in full party mode - the parade lights are flashing various colors, DJs are spinning contemporary Disney pop music (Ally & AJ, etc) and other tunes.

    I hadn't heard Ally & AJ until now.... I wish I hadn't! Its atrocious!

They're letting guests into the park with ease ... not checking AP hand stamps.

The big CalTrans sign at the Lion King Tram Stop warned guests that fireworks were cancelled... it didn't differentiate between "Believe" or "Fantasy" ... not sure if they're even gonna try for "Fantasy in the Sky" at midnight... I wouldn't count on it though.

Happy New Year to those on the East Coast!
