With incandescent bulbs gone, what is Disneyland going to do?

This may seem like and odd question, and I am in no way a light bulb expert, but I just had a thought. The US Congress has approved an energy law which would get rid of the incandescent light bulb. What does this mean for Disneyland and any other place that so heavily relies on the look of the classic incandescent bulb? Has Disney already switched to CFL lighting? The difference between the two bulb types is very noticeable. If CFL lights are the only option we have as Americans, what does this mean for Disney? Are there CFL lights that look like regular light bulbs? If there aren't, it's going to be a thematic nightmare for any resort that depends on lighting, whether it be Casinos or Disneyland. Please let me know what options Disneyland has or if they have already taken measures to preserving the look of the incandescent bulb.

You can read an article about it here:

    Through waivers, LED, and CFLs.

Yeah they could probably make an LED bulb that looks the same is an incandescent bulb.

We have lots of lights that use specialized bulbs, I assume that they will be excempt, and if not we will stock up on lots of them. Even the 'color corrected' CFLs look like s**t. But then again the phase in doesn't even start until 2012.

I would also think that they would use LED bulbs. They last longer and use less energy.

We'll all have to adjust. Now we will have to learn to complain about burned out CFLs.

In all seriousness this is a good thread--the details of presentation have always fascinated me. The individual elements that, by themselves, seem insignificant contribute in tiny portions to the overall foundation (or lack of it) for every attraction. A good article and an interesting topic.

While I imagine there will still exist a specialized market for the production of incandescent lighting, it will be interesting to see how Disney may choose to cope with the prospect of paying higher costs for these 'obsolete' bulbs.

Would the Penny Arcade look out-of-place with a change to an LED substitute? Would any notice?

If Disney and Vegas have to comply, you can bet there will be something created that looks darn authentic.

The production of 'Happy Cake Ovens' is really gonna go down the crapper.

Yeah, I certainly think something will be created that is an LED but authentic looking.

All stage light need to dimming the light.

    CFL's you can not dim.
the new one can dim but you turn it on it need full on then dim.

Led are nice but need Candle light power.

Hope Lamp maker, make small low watt hologena lamps.

CFL you can not put in the trash can.
    Hazard gas and metal inside.
Now you going need Safety Trash can.

enterainment bussness is not going to like it.!!!!

But the entertainment business has been using alternate lighting from the traditional incandescent for a long time. Most of them are gas-based anyways.

Say...what's the energy efficiency rating of pixie dust? I mean, it seems to glow pretty bright and Disney claims to have plenty.

This is a very good question.

Maybe they will be forced to get rid of the trim lighting altogether. Even though Walt obviously wanted it and by extension I would prefer it too, no lighting would be more accurate with turn of the 20th century America...
