Lost and Found

I was perusing the boards and then a question came to mind. With all of the people that visit DL there has got to be a lot of lost items collected. Does anyone know where unclaimed stuff goes and is there any unusual items that would be worthy of mentioning?

Re: Lost and Found

I remeber from when I was a CP at WDW, that lost items could be bought by CMs after so many days. That stuff would be sold with the clearanced and broken merchandise that disney was trying to get rid of by selling to CMs.

Re: Lost and Found

Not like there is anything worth buying. The majority of the items are hats, glasses, junky toys, etc. I have seen backpacks, camcorders, park tickets, pins, and GCH room keys, but those are rare and tend to get claimed rather quickly.

Re: Lost and Found

When I was 14, I found a Minnie hat and turned it in at City Hall. About 3 months later they mailed it back to me, nobody had claimed it. I thought that was so awesome!

In his classic book, "Mouse Tales," Dennis Koenig brings up this topic of lost items and the Lost & Found Department at DL. Some of the more unusual items that have gone unclaimed at DL are: false teeth, wheelchairs and wedding rings. Wouldn't you think these folks might at some point think that their lost valuables might just be turned into L&F?

Amazing!

Re: Lost and Found

If I recall correctly, it ends up and some sort of Salvation Army type place.

Some of the other items are donated to children's charities (kid's toys & plush) and/or distributed to other charities.

Some CM's have a sense of humor though, one group would go through IJ after hours & put all the L&F sunglasses onto all of the skulls......

That's what I'm looking for gangreen4jc!
I saw a story some time back on TV involving Lost &Found on the NY Subway. Among some of the most unique items was a prothetic leg. Who whould ever forget their leg?
I also remember hearing, when they drained the Rivers of America, they found a bowling ball among other such stuff. Crazy Man!

Re: Lost and Found

My daughter once lost her Little League hat. Somebody actually turned it in and Disney mailed it back to us. She was thrilled!

Definately. 12 years later it is still a "What is Disney to you" answer.

Re: Lost and Found

Also...when a CM finds something, they can put a claim in for it when they turn it in to Lost and Found. If that item is not possitively matched up with a guests lost item report the item will be given to the CM after a waiting period. Sometimes worth it when its a camera or other such item.

Otherwise the other posts are correct....CM sales with the money going to charity or the items themselves being given to charity. I believe strollers go directly to charity.
