Thank You, Rod Miller

I had to have some dental work done yesterday, two gum grafts. :eek:

I was pretty freaked out when I heard what was going to be done (and especially because it would be done under a local, so I was going to be awake the whole time). I brought my iPod and listened to Rod Miller's Ragtime CD with my eyes closed. The sun from the window was on my face and, in my mind, I was sitting at Coke Corner, sipping a lovely beverage and listening to Rod play. It truly took me away and I didn't think about the dental ickiness that was happening.

The periodontist cut two pieces of tissue from the roof of my mouth and sewed the tissue onto two places inside my mouth near my lower jaw to shore up some thin spots in my gums. I'm sore today, but doing fine.

Thank you, Rod Miller. Your music lives on and takes me to a very happy place. I know there's someone here on the board who has contact with Rod. I would truly appreciate it if you could pass this along to him and thank him on my behalf.

Rod rocks.

No question about that, Wanda. It's neat that he was able to help you through that difficult time! Ouch!

About a year ago, an old friend of mine told me that Rod shows up every now and again at the meetings of a group I believe is called something like the Orange County Ragtime Piano Lovers...they have regular meetings at a music store in downtown Fullerton.

When I first started out in 1974 I bussed tables at the old Plaza Pavillion...and the sound of his music from across the way helped me get through the days! I've loved it ever since.

I agree WW. Listening to Rod Miller sounds wonderful right now, the gum grafts....not so much.

Yes the music sounds wonderful, I will, if at all possible, skip the gum grafts.

Ah, good old Rod. I miss him. :( I hope he's still able to play piano for fun from time to time--somehow, despite his countless years of playing in the park, I've got a feeling he still loves it.

I'm glad he got you through the procedure, Wanda! Music can definitely help with stuff like that, and Rod's an exemplary musician.

I saw Rod playing in the park this past Christmas! I was walking back from the info board and there was a guest playing piano while the piano player sat in a chair and listened. I thought it was so strange, but the guest was really good! Then I caught the attention of the Main St. Pianist and he clued me in that every once in a blue moon Ron will stop by and play a song. It was right before the snow started and such a magical thing to see :)

Rod is certainly the best--but not a substitute for proper daily flossing, Super Hero.

The periodontist said the gum problem was likely the result of orthodontia I had done when I was a Super Hero-in-training. Several teeth were pulled then, so others could be moved into their places. He said teeth don't like that. My gum issues were closer to the jawbone, rather than around my teeth.


This liquid diet is not fun. I just drank an Ensure and it surely isn't satisfying. I may go wild and have a Jamba Juice for dinner.
