Carnation Cafe in the Rain

The wife and I will be at DL tomorrow (not for the Rally, unfortunately) and have Priority Seating for dinner at Carnation. I'm assuming that the restaurant closes in the rain, correct? Also, my wife is dying for the hot chocolate from Carnation, so if we're out of luck, where is the best (indoors) hot chocolate in the park?

Re: Carnation Cafe in the Rain

I can't give you a definitive answer, but MickeyMaxx and I were there on Wednesday afternoon in the rain and we did notice that Carnation Cafe was closed. We made the observation that the umbrellas at the tables are the only shelter there and they did not offer much respite from the rain. All of the tables were quite wet.

The MiceChat Story:
4 Years ago, I found a little fairy sprite trapped in a tree. She pleaded for me to set her free, and I did. As she flew off, she showered me in twinkling dust and told me that I should make a wish before the last sparkle faded away. I wished with all my heart for a way to unite all of my friends and create a magic place where we could be together whenever we wanted, wherever we were in the world. And the wish came true.

If you are gettin' it 'to go', Blue Ribbon Bakery's is good (I have found it is hard to screw up hot chocolate without real conscious effort, though. My palate may not be as refined as others when it comes to hot chocolate, however).

Yes, from personal experience, when it rains Carnation Cafe closes.

I thought the CC only did breakfast and lunch?

If your talking breakfast there's not much else thats a comparible quality inside DL. The River Belle Terrace might be a second choice but it's not full service....but they do have mickey pancakes.

Re: Carnation Cafe in the Rain

My kids are surprisingly picky about hot chocolate but they seem to concur that its good at all the to-go places we've tried in DL (sorry I can't think of any names right now!). If you are taking a break from the rain however, then storytellers cafe has the best hot chocolate according to them.

I second what MM posts. The only times I've ever made PS arrangements for CC it's been raining and they were closed (for lunch)

I love the hot chocolate at the Market House. Their coffee, though:

The Blue Ribbon's hot chocolate is Nestle, which is just serviceable at best.

The white hot chocolate at Market House makes my mouth happy!! For awhile there, I couldn't leave the park at night without one.

Re: Carnation Cafe in the Rain

We like the chocolate at Blue Ribbon Bakery and the little take-a-way spot in NOS where you get the bread bowls and fritters. One place that had the worst hot chocolate we had ever tasted was LaBrea Bakery in DTD. How the hell can you screw up coco you might ask ......... go there then tell me what they have done to it. It was expensive and seemed to be coagulated. Mmmmmmmm ............tasty!

Carnation serves Nestle too. We both make it the same way. The only difference is our to go cup and their ceramic mug.

I didn't know about the white hot chocolate!! I will have to
try that on my next trip!!!

All the hot chocolate vending is pretty much the same,
and I love it on a cool evening! Only once did i get watery
hot chocolate, it was a rookie running a machine and it
had just run out of the liquid mix. I saw them replace the
empty plastic container with a full one.
