Sad Scary incident today on Main Street!

I was on the little trolley that gets pulled by the horse on Main Street today, and we were trotting along nice and slow, when all of a sudden this little girl (maybe 10 years old) totally RUNS in FRONT of the horse because something of hers flew away. She literally had her head underneath the horses hoof. The horse was startled and immediatley stopped in it's tracks. I'm not even sure I saw the ride operator pull back the reins! There just wasn't any time! It seemed like the horse knew to stop immediatley when the little girl got too close, it was scary.

    What was more scary?

The parents or grandparents or whoever was with her didn't say a thing.

They smiled and patted her on the back and chuckled.

The ride operator just sort of stood there for a minute and took a deep breath and then got the horse going again.

I'm sorry, but if that was my kid?

Holy moley, she'd be getting her EAR chewed off.

Anyway, kudos to the cast member and the horse!!!

not something to be laughing over, good thing the horse knew to stop, not sure why the driver didn't pull back on the reigns though!

I think you answered your own question there. The horse knew what to do. Pulling on the reigns may have startled it more.

i saw something like that before except its with the firetruck. This kid just ran out onto the street right in front of the firetruck. the firetruck stepped on his brakes and all i can hear is the mom screaming her head off, just pulled her kid out of the way, apologies to the driver and stormed off. it was really really scare scene.

Another reason why the Main St. Horsies are my favorite part of Disneyland and Stupid parents are my least favorite.

If the girl had been hurt you bet those "parents" would have sued Disney.

Oh wow, that almost got ugly! Glad it didn't though, that is one lucky girl! Parents should've been more aware of her actions!

Re: Scary incident today on Main Street!

The reason the kid needs a good yelling at in this instance is so they know to never do it again. Luckily the horse knew better than everyone else involved! Maybe he knew his fate would be at the Elmer's plant if he stepped on the kid.

In a related but non-DL incident today, I watched two little kids at Target scamper out in front of their mom who was pushing a cart and run into the roadway in front of the store. There was a car coming and it had to come to a sudden hault because of them. Luckily there was no incident, but the mother really wasn't all that forceful about getting them to come back.

If you don't get kids to associate an angry reaction by mommy or daddy when they do something that could potentially kill them, they might be more apt to go and do it again.

Both ends of the horse have more common sense than that little girl's parents.

Well, I'm glad the little girl was okay and glad the horse knew what to do.

As for why the driver didn't pull the reigns, who knows. Could have been she didn't have time, the horse had already stopped or it may have just startled the horse more.

Hopefully they pulled the horse off after that and gave him a break.

But I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't a daily incident. People just don't pay attention.
