Yesterday I went with my aunt, 2 other teachers and a group of 41 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to DCA for an educational tour about animation.
I'm sorry I didn't take pics, but I'm not a tacher at the school, and I would be weirded out if pics of my kid went random places.
Anyhow, we started off with a group pic with Pluto in Sunshine Plaza. We met our tour guide after splitting into two groups with a pair of adults with each half.
We went through the Disney Animation after learning about the first animation technologies (zoetrope and phenakistoscope) and went into the Sorcerer's Workshop and played with those technologies and others. We went around all of the exhibits with our tourguide, learned how to draw Donald and so on.
Coming out of one of the exhibits, the other group's guide caught a Dream Ears person and grabbed a bunch. Enough for the other half of the gruop only. (I had been praying to get one since they first started. That was the ONLY thing I ever wanted.) So our half was not happy, but we rounded up some honorary citizen pins for them. (phew!)
Our group stayed on after Crush's turtle talk and got a little one-on-one, which was great. there had been so many kids that presentation, we had to sit in chairs (BTW, if you haven't done Turtle Talk yet, do it!)
The kids had many oppertunities through the program to create things, between the show on how to draw a character, the zoetropes and k- whatever-scopes they made in SW, and the last project of the day was a storyboard sequence.
Then we had lunch and rode rides.
I stayed behind (cause I come often enough I don't mind) with half of the kids while the other half rode Screamin' (we stood on the side and waved goodbye to everyone that rode the ride. Loudly.)
Almost everyone rode Mulholland (it rocks) and everyone rode Soarin'.
We had around 20 kids Ride TOT, most had never been on it at all.
And then half of the group attacked Bug's Land and the other rode Orange Stinger.
In all, Very exhausting, but fun! Bug your teacher to look into this program!
PS. one of the kids got tired of his hat, so now there is one sitting in my living room. I HAVE A HAT!!!!!!!!!!!
