Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
Matt Ouimet has opted to place the new play area for kiids inside Toon town instead of the former Motor Boat Cruise area. According to Al, Matt wants to build something more significant there. What type of Fantasyland attraction would you like to see installed here?
If you wish, check out the growing list of possibilities below -
- Mickey's PhilharMagic and/or Magic Lamp Theater
- Villains based ride
- Sinbad's Seven Voyages animatronic dark ride
- Journey Into Imagination with Figment
- Little Mermaid dry to wet dark ride (boat vehicles or hanging shell vehicles)
- Rescuers dark ride,,,with green leafe shaped motor boats
- Nemo dry to wet dark ride
- Trackless dark ride (in the vein of TDS's Pooh) - perhaps Beauty and the Beast
- Journey To the Center of the Earth
- Voyage of the Little Mermaid show
- Dinosaur
- Mary Poppins dark ride
- An original show
- A flat ride or flat ride area (Caravan Carousel, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Dinorama, Mermaid Lagoon, an original flat ride or flat ride area.

Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
Well this is Fantasyland, so it would have to be something Fantasy-ish.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I doubt they'd do the first option (the Little Green Men flying saucer bumper cars); there's already a bit too much Star Command stuff in the land (love Astro Blasters, not a big fan of Club Buzz), and a very similar ride was there in 1955, and was removed quickly. I'd love to see the area incorporated into Fantasyland and turned into a new dark ride (preferably Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella). Given its proximity to IASW and Matterhorn, making that area part of Fantasyland makes sense.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
Would they really be able to fit a very big building in the area for a dark ride? If so, I would like to see a little mermaid dark ride. It would fit in better next to the subs.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I would like to see an original attraction.. something not at another park... you want people to go to DL right... so nothing from WDW should be built there... unless drastically changed...
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I agree, Disneylandrocks. A little Mermaid dry to wet ride would seem to be the perfect component to the nearby Nemo Subs.
On the othe hand, this might be a good place to put a Disneyland version of WDW's Mickey's PhilharMagic.
Figment 1986 has a good point. Perhaps the Imagineers would be able to dream up something far superior to the Little Mermaid concept or the PhilharMagic attraction.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I think the Little Mermaid ride would be the best bet. Something not in the other parks, but a nice tie in to everything in the area.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
With proximity to matterhorn, the subs, monorail, etc. It may be an interesting fit to go with the journey to the center of the earth ride. You could have dry to wet dark ride. They could dig down instead of building up and we might end up with something really cool.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
Digging out enough area to build a DL version of Disney Sea's Journey To the Center of the Earth would require a tremendous amount of excavation. But what a ride that would be! The queue would likely be breathtaking, and blend in as a fantastic component to Nemo Subs, both theme wise and aesthetically. Plus, this would place a needed fast-paced ride in this area.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I would love to see them put a brand new never been used in any other park dark ride. My suggestion would to create the dark ride of all dark rides and create a Villains based ride.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
How about this for a dark ride to go there…
You know how they have “The Great Movie Ride” at MGM?” Where they show scenes from great movies with AA’s?
How about (on a much smaller scale) something similar but the scenes are from the newer Disney classics like, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, etc. In a perfect world it would be cool if each of those had separate rides, but in this small space, maybe.
An idea I had was to expand fantasyland where the old hunchback theater is now and add those separate dark rides there. That would be ideal.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
Already existing ideas: Mickey's PhilharMagic, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
Possible ideas: There are so many possible Fantasy realated themed rides they can come up with.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I've heard talk of a Little Mermaid wet-to-dry ride using a ride system similar to Peter Pan; it's looking likely that this ride would be in DCA near Ariel's Grotto. If it's not going over to DCA (and I honestly think that Paradise Pier needs a good attraction more than Fantasyland), then it would be a perfect fit for the Motorboat Cruse area.
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
Figment! As much as I really, REALLY want a figment ride here on the west coast, it just doesn't fit in that area. I don't think Philharmagic does, either... I'd love to see a nice e-ticket go in, but is there space enough in that area? I doubt it...
Re: Possible Motor Boat Cruise Replacement
I think PhilharMagic would be a good replacement. It would fit nicely, soak up crowds and not be a total blockbuster, so it won't congest the area.
