    Save the River Animals!!!

I was at the park today and business looked brisk and things were looking generally very good - - But then I took a ride on the Mark Twain.

Though the DL crew has made some real progress in spiffing up the park - - poor Rivers of America is home to some of the most un-cared-for robots I've ever seen at Disneyland!

The little dog who is on the log next to the Indian boy - - his shiny metal sketeton was sticking out from his tail and his neck, through the matted and torn fur. His neck was broken and his head was hanging, nose all the way down to the log, still nodding.

The deer were sadly faded. The Indian Village needed refreshment.

The bear had cobwebs and faded, matted fur - and was not moving a bit (he's usually rubbing his *** against the tree).

The gophers were not popping in and out of the train - or moving at all, also matted and worn.

The long still waterfalls are sadly missed.

(I didn't notice the condition of the settler's cabin).

Since these scenes are the backdrop of no less than three rides around the River - this level of disrepair is really unconscionable. I know they have had to set some priorities with all that needed to be done, but this is really sad. I was checking the faces of some of the kids on the packed boat and they notice these things - - please restore the illusion.

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive.
If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

With all this talk of "off the shelf" and "on the back-burner" it seems the only thing that DCA is really missing is the kitchen sink!

Yep it's time to "liven" up the animals. They look so fake and dated.

    Great report.

We have to make this known, but make sure that the solution they come to is not REMOVING any of this.

Sometime back, I had just got on the train at mainstreet station and was asking my 2 year old "where's the leopard?" As we approached where it's supposed to be, all that was left was an empty rock. I know all of these type of things seem small, but they add up, and help build the fantasy...

What a crying shame. But, as I've observed around the Park, if it wasn't fixed on May 4, 2005, it ain't gonna be. Maintenance stopped dead in its tracks that day.

When I went on the monorail, I noticed two faded oxen sitting backstage. Where were they, in JC?

I had to leave an Aunt and Uncle behind a few months ago who couldn't keep up with us. Is that what you mean?

Did rubby the bear still have one very scary droopy eye? I've been wanting to get a photo of him as he looks like something from a horror movie.

I wouldn't mind if they added new entertainment to the river so that the riverboats could actually be an attraction.

The elephants need some work done too.

Maybe Al Lutz will take some pictures to point it out for the execs. It's okay if he does, because they have their trunks on.

When I was there in July and rode the train around the settler's cabin was being swallowed by the wilderness. (In other words the brush and weeds are way over grown, and needs to be cut back a lot to look like someone might actually live there).

The river has been in sad shape for a long time. A few years back, Tony Baxter had a plan to add a bit more storyline to the riverbank, add effects, and refurbish everything. It never got the green light.

Last time I rode the Mark Twain, I was saddened to see the moose covered in bird droppings. His back and head were completely white.

    Bleh, sad and gross.

No wonder my mom never took me on the river rides.

I had always thought those figures would be preserved much better if covered every night, but of course that would involve a body actually being paid to walk around and do said action - sigh
