Yeah, the only information I've come across says pretty much the same thing: that there was initially opposition to the original plans for the new Spaceship (actually, this version was called Spacestation) Earth, which, at 300 ft, would be seen from some people's backyards. The design team compromised by changing the park's focal point to a lame and uninspiring, not to mention cheaper, smaller white spire instead.
Forget 'Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln,' Samantha Brown is Disney's most sophisticated animatronic.

What kind of person wouldn't want to wake up every morning and see part of a Disney park? Well, some of the people who can't afford to go might not want to see it, but I find it hard to believe that enough people complained for Disney to take it seriously.

I agree as well. I think the time for Westcot has come and gone.

I remember one of the plans for Westcot was a 40 minute boat ride like Small World. I really don't think that today's audiences would be willing to sit down for a boat ride that lasted so incredibly long. I'm amazed that people still line up for Small World.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's time has passed.

You'd be surprised! Isn't the Land boat ride at EPCOT pretty long? If people will wait in a line for an hour I think they'll tolerate a 40 minute boat ride. I would!

BTW there is a fairly new attraction near New Delhi, India that has a "boat ride through Indian history" ride that is well over 1 hour long.

Second, there was also a lot of resident uproar over the Westcot plans.

    Next question.
A 3rd park wouldn't be built at Disneyland/DCA but over in the 3rd large parcel of land near that new Garden Walk mall.

The land boat ride at EPCOT was changed to be faster. It isn't anywhere close to 40 minutes. Now Ellen's energy adventure, when you count the pre show and the ride is fairly long. But I'm not sure how long. Anyhow, that one's not all that well attended. But my kiddos liked the Dinos.

Energy Adventures clocks in at 45 minutes. The reason it isn't well attended, is because it is boring except the dinosaurs. It is basically movie screen after movie screen, not a real 45 minute ride, you only move for a very few minutes.

Re: Will there ever be a Wescot?

The boat would have different stopping points in the park,
(four corners of the world, I had heard it referred to at one
point) so you wouldn't necessarily be on the boat for 40 minutes -
that would just be a round trip. How long does it take to go
around Disneyland on the DLRR, with its stops on Main St,
New Orleans Square, Toontown , and Tomorrowland? It would have
been similar in that respect, however the boat ride would have been
a nice contrast for WESTCOT, and set it apart.

Also, consider that DCA currently has NO in park transportation
at all, ZILCH, NADA, ZIPPO! If you want to get anywhere, you
have to walk. DL has ALWAYS had the train, and at one point
the Skyway, as well as the several different Main Street Vehicles,
that get you to the center of the park from the entrance! At DCA,
There just isn't any easy way, or shortcuts, for guests to get from
Tower of Terror to Flik's Fun Fair (even though they are right next
to each other. Nor is there any transportation that can shorten the
walk from California Screamin' to the Screamin' Monsters Inc in HPB!

Westcot's layout was certainly designed a heck of a lot better than
the what DCA opened with, or has now!
