Burbank Studios Commissary open to Public?

Didn't know where the best place was to put this, so I thought I'd drop it here to begin.

Driving past the Disney Lot in Burbank the past few days on my way home from work, I've noticed some temp walls up around the outside of the commissary on Buena Vista. There is a sign that reads: "The commissary is not open to non-Disney employees today." I didn't realize that the commissary was open to non-Disney employees any day. Since I work around the corner from the lot, I'm very curious about this. Can anyone shed some light on the subject for me? Thanks.

i work down the street from the studio and always thought it was closed to the public...i have eaten there a few times but only with employees. i would like a new place to eat around here, i am getting tired of the warner cafe and paquito mas

I have never heard of it being open to the public, I don't know why they would ever change it. You don't want anyone just running around the studio lot.

My understanding is that the commissary is only open to non-employees who are accompanied by employees. I know during the writer's strike they put those signs up so that the employees wouldn't overload the place with their writer friends. Not sure why they're still up. To get to the commissary, you'd have to get on to the lot in the first place, and security will do a pretty good job making sure that you don't.
I have eaten there before, as well. It's ok, but you're not missing much.

Frontier Wok, Too on Olive is pretty good.

I believe the commissary is open to workers at St. Joe's hospital, which is across the street. I'd see people in scrubs pretty much every day taking food to-go.

I wouldn't be that enthused about eating there. If the food at DL is any indication, that place should be horrible.

The food at the Buena Vista commissary is actually pretty good! There's a bunch of different stations with different entrees daily, the standard soup/salad/sandwiches, and a Panda Express. In the ABC commissary, they've got Baja Fresh and fancier food (like kabobs). And that place is pretty new so it's really nice looking and has a good set-up.

They're probably talking about opening up the commissary to contractors and vendors and the like. They're not Disney employees but they're on property.

The food at DL has no real bearing on the food at the studios. Everything seems much fresher and more hand-made than anything at the parks. I had a very nice meal there, but like I said, it wasn't anything too special. Just good.

The commisionary is open to anyone who is employed by the Disney company with a yellow, blue, pink, or green ID card. Keep in mind that ONLY the Commisionary is open, other areas of the studio's are not, you would need to be with WDI or the studios to obtain access to other areas.

Also, to clear up any confusion about eating there - You must be employed by Disney with a Cast-Member, Imagineer, or crew member ID

The food at the commissary at the studios and even at WDI is awesome! But you can only eat there if you have a DL CM, Imagineer, ABC employee, etc. with you. The studios grounds are not heavily secured unless you go off the path from the parking structure to the store and commissary. You can even go down and view the Disney Legends area out in front of the Executive offices.
