Re: Small World Changes OFFICIAL! Underground....

So if the majority of people at WDI are against this, why is it still being pushed through, and who is doing the pushing?

I prefer the Blair style (can't beat that genuine Mid Century vibe), but I don't blame Disney for not trying to replicate it in Paris -- The original attraction was/is still there anyway, and why try to artificially mimic someone's style when that someone is long dead. At least Disney was ambitious enough to try something new back in the early '90s.
I was quite disappointed that I was unable to experience Disneyland Paris' version of "it's a small world". The kicker really comes with Hong Kong Disneyland where the attraction is following Disneyland Paris in style and setting its own course with the characters. I have little faith that the group spearheading this project will not do things the easy way and continue to follow Disneyland Paris' style with their additions.

Re: Small World Changes OFFICIAL! Underground....

Well, technically, it's DDS (Disney Design Studios) that's doing the work, since it's a smaller project than the ones that WDI proper normally tackles. I've seen some of the work they're doing, and it definitely meshes with the existing attraction in terms of visual style. It's just a matter of time before we find out if they're placed subtly enough to avoid turning the entire thing into a commercial.

Hong Kong Disneyland's version doesn't seem at all similar to DLP's to me? Its facade is clearly the Mary Blair one in a vivid new color scheme (see clock), and the boats don't go outside the building, unlike DLP and DL. Also, what they've released of the HK sets seems to follow the geometric Blair style, not DLP's.

Disneyland Paris' IASW, like the rest of the park, was experimental and very expensive and probably regretted instantly by Disney's accounting team. We may want parts of it Xeroxed elsewhere, but Disney is clearly hesitant to.

Well, I wrote and mailed my letters of concern. It may do nothing, but I have said my peace.

Re: Small World Changes OFFICIAL! Underground....

I suppose reluctant imagineers who aren't happy with the changes will produce a product that tries to match the style as much as possible.

Re: Small World Changes OFFICIAL! Underground....

Wow have times changed, I remember when there were pink slips to the minority if the majority of WDI did not agree with it. For those that doubt what I am saying... you don't see Tarzan on the J.C. now do you?... several heads rolled with that proposal! Also as Mr F. pointed out if WDI does not support it then they will do everything within their power to make the changes as subtle as possible.

What really surprised me is that this is happening when there has been drastic changes to the WDI culture. In previous years WDI had a very secretive closed door policy. They changed that with the Jungle rehab. They actually came down, sat a lot of the seniors down, and said "We want this to work, you want this to work, any thoughts that we can toss in on this?" A lot of the "brainstorming" for that was done on our level, not behind the closed doors in Glendale! So to have a major change like this, without the input of a variety of individuals, is a bit of a shock.

It was specifically because of that meeting that I left the "rehab concept notes" with my Managers to forward to WDI when I left company!

Looks like someone posted an "official" announcement, not sure if it will be merged into this or not. Same news, Small World's changing and asking people to campaign against it.

Where did you send your email, David??

This is so upsetting. Walt stood there with members of the countries represented and they put their water jars of water from their country, in the water of IASW. I have been going on this ride since the 60's, and it holds so much sentimental value to me. Why add Pixar characters? Or ANY other characters?? I am heartbroken. I LOVE this ride, for the sentimental value.

Stitch I can understand, but why are they putting the Hitchhiking Ghosts in Hawaii?

Wait this makes no sense. Subtle? Why not just END the damne thing!? Have the power to end this BEFORE they move into the show building.

Re: Small World Changes OFFICIAL! Underground....

Thx for putting the pic Mike. As you can see, they TOOK OUT the Surfer Boy AA to put in Lilo and Stitch. They REMOVED an iconic AA figure to shove the characters in. So to say this rehab is "adding" to is ludicrous. BTW, this is from HKDLs model.

Re: Small World Changes OFFICIAL! Underground....

Also, see where they put it? DIRECTLY in FRONT of the hula girls, thereby taking the focus away from the dolls and to the characters. So again, we're right.
