Re: Save the Rainforest - Keep "it's a small world" a classic.

If it's not broken, why fix it?

During Disneyland's 50th anniversary, they closed Space Mountain
for a long rehab, just to re-open it with the same layout but different
track. Though it re-opened with little change, Disney promoted it well
and boosted attendance. The ride is as popular as ever.

I don't understand why they can't do the same with Small World.

The flume needed to be fixed...not the rainforest scene.

The International, I ask again, is there anything you have heard of and did not support or ever come to the conclusion that a certain change was not for the better?

I really wanted to love Nemo but I can't imagine riding it again, unless it's a walk-on.

I tend to give Disney the benefit of the doubt, because I go to the parks semi-frequently (once every three months or so) and I never fail to have an amazing time. As soon as all of these changes start negatively affecting my time in the park then I'll be wary of them, but until then I'm not about to jump on the most recent "They're killing Disneyland, we MUST save it!" bandwagon.

It's incredibly silly that you think I need a "valid argument" to support my opinion about the upcoming changes. It's a theme park ride, we heard a rumor about possible changes, and I have no problem with them... it's that simple.

And besides, I've read your posts and I know that as soon as I post a "valid argument" you'll give me a bunch of Disney quotations and other things showing how my opinion is somehow wrong, and that if I was a true Disney fan I would see things the correct way (which always happens to be your way, coincidentally).
Hey troll -- agree or leave.

I love how the anti-change crowd sees their stance as the one that is always best for Disney. If you like and/or support changes around DL, you can't be a true DL fan because a true fan wouldn't want to see it 'ruined' by these executives that don't know what they're doing. It's the purists who know what's best for everyone. Yeah, right.

That is standard legalese. Maybe someone else has answered (haven't read the whole thread). It's like if you had a concept for an attraction - it's not something Disney would accept.

That doesn't even make sense. I've said it in this thread today and others... if the changes fit the theme and any applicable message of the show, then by all means - do it.

See: Haunted Mansion attic, Jungle Cruise piranha, Space Mountain 2005, etc.

Do you not see how you contradict yourself? Honestly, nobody forced you to enter and read this thread. If you don't like it, get out and go hug one of those trees we're "disrespecting."
You seem to be conveniently forgetting Pirates, now that it's become in vogue to dislike the refurb. Let me quote:

I'm certainly not going to complain, but it does seem a tad bit odd.

I love the updated attraction, and I think that most if not all of the naysayers will love it as well. Its tastefully done, adds on to Marc Davis' classic character gags, enhances the experience through "plussing" the audio, lighting, and numerous special effects. Just an amazing job by Walt Disney Imagineering.

I'm extremely pleased to say that we've got another winner to the growing list of recent home-runs: Jungle Cruise, Enhanted Tiki Room, Space Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, Monsters Inc., and now Pirates of the Caribbean!

Bravo, WDI!

Fair enough. I still like Pirates. But the novelty of the new additions has worn off. The Davy Jones effect, in particular, is pretty weak. But that's a different discussion altogether.

I also said the Pirates Lair additions were good quality and entertaining when they debuted. But I don't accept them as thematically appropriate by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Rainforest mist is nice when it works.
  • Toucan Placement SUCKS, should have been on the other side of the river.
  • Bob's new placement makes it IMPOSSIBLE to really see from the boat.
  • Extra crocs are fun but they should have gone with AA's
  • Ginger's new placement ROCKS
  • 3rd cobra is nice, since no one really saw it in the boathouse.
  • Spiders look completely FAKE
  • Elephant pool moonlight is BEAUTIFUL
  • Baboons are annoying at best and again are on the wrong side IMO.
  • Explosion ROCKS... especially when it breaks.
  • Greedy gorilla is pointless
  • new Veldt arrangement is nice, still looks fake and needs to be mixed more.
  • Random Impala at C is completely pointless
  • Natives looked really bad with the colors... not that they looked great before
  • Native ambush back/forth movement definite plus.
  • Pirahna shrine SUCKED
  • Anaconda paintjob ROCKS
  • Sam an Ellie... TOTAL LOSS
So that is my opinion of that in a nutshell... sorry for the derail.

I think the question is, though, do the additions, in general, stay true to the attraction? Overall, do they enhance the show and stay in-theme?

I would venture to say yes.

Re: Save the Rainforest - Keep "it's a small world" a classic.

IMO putting Disney toons in IASW would be as out of place as putting characters from Disney's Tarzan in the Jungle Cruise -- and just as blatant a merchandising hype.

Keep venturing... not sure how a Head Hunter with an Elephant can seem like an enhancement! Personally I liked it the way it was. That list had a lot more minuses then pluses, not to say they didn't do a good job but there was a lot that even WDI was upset about less then a month later!

I remember the WDI guy who didn't last long because he believed in that.

I have to vote with tech skip on the WFJC enhancements too much effort too little payoff. And to screw up Trader Sam with ellie is almost criminal.

How were the additions out-of-theme like adding Disney characters in "small world" is?

Please explain how Ellie "screwed up" Trader Sam?
