Re: Block Party Bash moving to Paris in 2 years?

BPB has been said to be the sleeper hit of the 50th.
more people may see POD in terms of numbers, but the buzz and word of mouth on BPB is pretty astounding.

Arrow The best thing to hit DCA since, um, EVER.

Duh, and that's exactly why Al hasn't said a damn word about Block Party Bash in his column except that "It wasn't my cup of tea." Why wasn't it his cup of tea? Because it's GOOD and he can't tear it down.

Anyway, I'm getting off-topic. Bottom line, guys, is that whatever happens to Block Party, or wherever it ends up going (or being cloned), NO ONE will be able to do what we did at DCA.

How many of you have actually been to WDW and seen their horrible entertainment? They could NEVER pull off Block Party. And both parades in Paris (the "Disney Cinema Parade" and the lasted-way-longer-than-POTS "Wonderful World of Disney Parade") were even worse. Seriously guys, the only other place that could pull off Block Party would be Tokyo... and even then, I doubt they'd just buy or copy it.

And if it ended up going to TDS, they'd probably turn all the floats into huge barges in the middle of the lagoon and make it more along the lines of Ariel's Seaside Trasures.

Wow, it's been a lot of fun watching this rumor blossom from "What if.." to fact.

Re: Block Party Bash moving to Paris in 2 years?

I heard from my brother's ex-wife who is friends with the father of the show director for Block Party that it will run for 3 years and they plan to advertise its last year as the "Farewell Season". It will then be shipped off to Hong Kong Disneyland, but they will only receive the floats (no cones or trampolines-- those will most likely be auctioned off via Disney Auctions). Then 2 years later they will ship the Block Party floats back to DCA and run it as a daytime "cavalcade", minus the cones and trampolines that will be gone. The show stops will be cut, and the music will be updated to current popular tunes to appeal to the teen crowd.

(By the way, none of this is true.)

Did you read the last line of the post?

If I know Disney, and I think I do, BPB isn't headed anywhere. Regardless of how long parades are originally planned to last, Disney makes final decisions based on popularity. If a parade is still popular, it stays. If it isn't, it leaves. That is the reason Tapestry of Dreams lasted little more than a year at Epcot, but the Jammin' Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom has been running daily since late 2001. I would liken BPB's popularity more to Jammin Jungle Parade than ToD.

Decisions for whether or not a parade or show lasts is based on a lot of things.
popularity, the wear and tear on show and performers, and of course, money, money, money.
BPB was built for 5 years, but it will last as long as they decide to keep it going. But if it is popular with guests, that definitely gives it more staying power.
I truly hope BPB doesn't get the smack down like Eureka did.
also, parks need live entertainment, especially a parade. And for a while, this may be all DCA has. and it needs it.

MSEP lasted (At both DL and WDWMK) mainly because of one thing--The music.

And because people love it...electrical light parades are an expected Disney experience--right along with fireworks, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc. I don't, however, think people would complain if DEP were replaced by a new light parade. Light Magic sucked, but all the other light parades Disney has made have been very successful.
