Mary Blair's family speaks out against Small World changes! (merged threads)

(snip) "...While I fully understand and support the upgrade to the boats as a necessary safety upgrade, the addition of the Disney Characters and the “Up with America” section I do NOT support as it represents a gross desecration of the ride's original theme and my Mother’s stylized artwork.

The Disney characters of themselves are positive company icons, but they do NOT fit in with the original theme of the ride. They will do nothing except to marginalize the rightful stars of the ride “The Children of the World”. This marginalization will do nothing but infuriate the ride’s international guests and devoted Disney fans..." (snip)

I bet this letter wont change their opinion. Disney seems to be dead set and focused on this change.

If Disney won't listen to us, they probably won't listen to him.

disneyland is not a museum. I have a feeling if walt was still around today dinsleyland would look much different than it does now.

There's lots of room in Small World to make additions,
and in a fantasy attraction, such as It's a Small World,
Disney characters can live in harmony with the children
and critters of the world, too.

    >>disneyland is not a museum.<<

So far as I know, Walt himself never said that. Imagineers trying to validate their own vanity projects did.

    >>I have a feeling if walt was still around today dinsleyland would look much different than it does now.<<

Yeah, we'd still have Mary Blair's tile murals too.

You're right. But I trust his ideas of changes more than anyone else. I'm sure the changes he would have made would have been positive ones.

But it changes the message to a corporate global branding/commercial scheme.

I hope that he has some influence, or at the very least that Disney will listen.

And the hits just keep on coming... Merlin feel free to send that link to the O.C. Register... I have a feeling that they may enjoy that... plus Sir Mouse's letter!

Hopefully Disney will 'hear' the Blair family.

Simply vote with your dollar people, Disneyland is a business plain and simple. If they can tweak anything at this point and re-open with some kinda change that will get people to turn out they have won and no amount of letter writing or pleading will change that.

Whether his letter has any impact or not, I'm glad he wrote it. He is definitely entitled to his opinion, and it happens to be an opinion I agree with. I'm all for upgrading classics like World, but I just wish it was staying as true to its original format as possible. I agree with Blair's son on this one.
I still miss her tile artwork in Tomorrowland.

    Weak argument.

Of course Disneyland would look a lot different, but I don't think Walt would have been making changes to attractions that were out-of-theme and inappropriate to the show's core message.
