IASW to CA Screamin' - Almost a mile walk...

Some amazing person tweaked the google maps system to make it work with measuring short distances (the same way a pedometer does). He calls it the Gmaps Pedometer. Using this, I mesured this distance between It's a Small World and CA Screamin' and found that the distance is .87 miles. Check it out:

You can reset it and try your own route, too.

Hey, Jr Miss Sunnygirl and I get a lot of excercise just walking around both parks for a day! But it's so much fun for both of us, we don't view it as actual excercise, which I am passionately against. So it works out well.

Imagine my horror at setting out on my 0.87 mile hike only to find that California Screamin' is CLOSED!

But seriously, what a great tool! Good find, fpm!

BTW, I measure 0.38 miles from the DtD Monorail station to the M&F loading area ...... in case you wanted to consider taking the Monorail in lieu of the tram (0.1 mile longer to take the monorail from IASW, unless you took the train to MS ....)

Oh man, that site is fantastic.

    Things I've learned:

    * Walking to the structure via the path/Disneyland Drive is .45 miles, walking through DTD/DTD parking lot is .6 miles, so one third longer.

    * .9 miles from HoJo to Fowler's Inn

    * Mickey and Friends is .2x.1 miles

We used a pedometer at Disneyland one day and did about 7 miles.

This was when I was HUGE and going to Disney bi-weekly. What I want to know is if I was doing at least 7 miles every 2 weeks, how was I so big!!! I guess it was all of the eating I used to do.

I don't think you burn as many calories doing 7 miles sporadically as doing 7 miles all at once. Which of course at Disney it's more sporadic because you sit quite a bit. Sometimes those pedometers are faulty and can count the movement on attractions as 'steps'. Also if you are in a queue and making .5 miles of steps you are burning very little calories as opposed to actually taking a brisk .5 mile walk.

So you probably were not getting the same amount of exercise as going for a 7 mile hike.

Walking actually doesn't burn as many calories as most people think. We are built to conserve calories because in the beginning there was little food available and our systems had to conserve energy to survive. So walking, even 7 miles in 2 weeks, burns a surprisingly low amout of calories. However, it's excellent cardiovascular excercise which works out your lungs and heart. If you combined that with a weight lifting program (which burns a LOT of calories, but doesn't offer much cardiovascular) you'd probably be in very good shape.

This was really handy for me trying to figure out how far of a walk it'll be from the hotel I'm in the next time I'm down to the front gate. Thanks!
