The Disney's California Adventure that never was

We all now Disney's California Adventure and concept-arts of the future placemaking gave us an idea of the one to come, but do you know that there is a Disney's California Adventure that never was ?

All the attractions we know were there in this early concept, but with a different architecture. As the entrance, it was totally different, and the park's icon was a giant spire, a reminiscent of the Westcot legendary project.

The concept-arts of this Disney's California Adventure that never was are on line on Alain Littaye's Disney and more blog at:
http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2008/ ... never.html

And all about Westcot with a Tony Baxter presentation is here:
http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/20...d-special.html

Once you're on the page, double-click on each picture to get them in big size.

Wow - excellent art work. Too bad it didn't happen!

Thanks for the inside look, Alain!

Yes, there is tons of artwork and other great things - historical pictures, videos, etc... even great magic acts! - on Disney and more.

As one of my reader once said : "it's not a blog, it's not a web site, it's a gold mine! "

Scroll down on the right column, wherever you will click, it will be great. Really. And every picture will be in high-res ! Just double-click on each to get them in big size.

While I have seen most of the concept art before, that map is new to me, and very fascinating (thanks Alain)! And not just DCA - take a look at Disneyland! - there is the footprint of a big attraction beyond the Thunder Ranch area (just to the left of ToonTown). I wonder what it was? Anyone know?

I think it was the Geyser Mountain project. Tony Baxter once expect to have it built in this area - where the "festival of fools" was, or near...

looking at this stuff really makes me sad. I love the animation building! everything looks soo exciting! I hope the new DCA is just as thriling as these renderings.

For comparison, in case it interests anyone, here is a map of Westcot:

I may have been wrong about that DL attraction footprint, since a similar area appears on this map as well, and does not appear to be an attraction...just a tree-lined space.

I think your original thought was right. That render was pre Toontown, and there's a building placed there. There's a building outline where there's a trash heap and the DD compounds are now. Also look west of Critter county there's an extended space under the berm. Obviously they were areas of potential expansion at one point in the past.

If I read that correctly - red coloured buildings are existing, just an outline was proposed.

Re: The Disney's California Adventure that never was

Probably just a connecting pathway to new parking garages (numbered "10").
