Re: They ARE changing the SONG! ......

It may just be the most annoying song in the history of the world, but it's a classic.
I think that sums up the heart of just about all the anti-change arguments. This is an attraction that wouldn't be terribly well accepted if it were built nowadays, methinks, but its classic status ensures that some people are very committed to it remaining the same. Me personally, I don't enjoy an annoying classic any more than something new and equally annoying.

Re: They ARE changing the SONG! ......

Well the problem is it's a small world is pretty much a historic icon. I mean the song is almost universally known...in terms of Disneyland and Disney World, I think it's the attraction that is the most associated.

I think if our song gets tampered with, the rest of the world would go, "Huh?!"

I don't know, I'd have to hear it before I could pass judgment on it.

But I think the point that many people (Disney fans like us and the average Joe) are stumbling across is the lack of unique and original creativity for the parks and that everything made now ends up being a giant advertisement to sell more overpriced merchandise. The public feels used...they know over-advertising when they see it.

Greed is what is driving all of this I feel.

    I certainly hope not!

WDI already knows how pissed off the public is about the changes in the first place, I highly doubt they would even dare think about changing the iconic song.

I tend to agree with this. However, if this does happen and it's as subtle as they're tying to make it sound, I probably won't have a problem with it.

I think this is too broad a statement. As much as most of us enjoy the attraction for it's "classic" status, most of the kids I have been on the attraction with have seemed rather bored. While I'm not thrilled with the proposed changes to It's a Small World, I am of the opinion it's not going to end it tons of pissed off kids and parents... I think what you'll have is a group of pissed off Disneyland purists and that's about it. Changes such as these keep happening because they are successful (in Disneyland). Do I agree with them? Not always- but from a business stand point, they seem to work. From what I have seen, POTC and Tom Sawyer's Island seem to be just as popular as ever- and in the case of Tom Sawyer's Island, more so even. I love It's a Small World, I really do, and if I had my way they wouldn't touch it... but, at least in my opinion, the majority of Disneyland's guests do not feel the same way, which is why I don't think these changes are going to hurt the attendance of that attraction at all- in fact, it'll probably bolster it IMO.

Again really don't care either way since I am not a huge "Must ride Small World" nut... I can't tolerate that kind of mental torture. What I find interesting is that some individuals think it will only remain in one park. IF it is successful there is a good chance it will be implemented in other parks... that wonderful word SYNERGY... if it flops then it will remain where it is *cough* Tiki Under New Management...

I've been trying to stay out of all this IASW talk because if anything it's starting to get more annoying than that song to me.
I don't think adding the underscoring is going to be all that detrimental. I think if anything it'll make the song more interesting, less repetitive and what not.

And i definitely have to disagree with this idea. I think the AP's and the Disney buffs are going to go "huh?!" but as for the world, I'm hard pressed to believe that some underscoring is going to have them charging City Hall. I could understand this if they were changing the words or the voices singing or if it was suddenly like "It's a Small World After All Under the Sea!!" but I don't think that a (hopefully) subtle counterpoint is going to have the public grabbing pitchforks. Hell, I'd be surprised if they noticed.

Also, I think comparing this to a plan to change an area that was not well thought out or funded is completely ridiculous. Just cause it's a makeover doesn't mean it's automatically Tomorrowland '98. I don't see the similarities at all except that one was a mistake and the other had the potential to be.

Wait - - they still haven't fixed it, either!

And don't forget Swiss Family Treehouse and the Country Bears - - more travesties of taste that haven't been repaired.

Oh don't worry they will fix it! Just like they fixed Epcot and DCA...by stuffing the place full of CARTOON tie-ins!

    Adding a note of character
In addition to the four new languages, the team is making this it's a small world unique by working with master music arranger George Wilkins to add a series of arrangements from classic Disney animated films that will play as "counterpoints" to the new character overlays. For example, as guests pass through the North America scene and see the doll dressed as Pocahontas, they'll hear a subtle suggestion of "Colors of the Wind."

"Because 'small world' is such a simple song, we couldn't take some of these grand arrangements and put them on top of it," said John. "We're being very sensitive to the existing song because [it's] so good and so universally loved."
Can you please post a source for this?

Re: They ARE changing the SONG! ......[in Hong Kong DL]

Why wouldn't they do this at Disneyland? Hong Kong Disneyland is the inspiration for the changes. The pastel facade brought the Disneyland Paris soundtrack. Then there was a brief love affair with the original, and now it seems to be over already.
