Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough???

So I read on one of Al Lutz articles many months ago that they were possibly going to redo the old castle walkthrough and bring back the old concept from when it originally opened with the Eyvind Earle (spelling?) paintings and sort of focus more on Maleficent and what not...any news about this???

I was really really excited about this, because the attraction was a favorite of mine when I was little (even though I grew up with the little doll one...), and I would be so happy to see it back but with new stuff...

I haven't heard anything, but I'm with you. I'd love to see it redone again and displayed as a walk through!

die hard people who like it would cry at the condition it's in right now. not sure what they do with the some stuff like the fireworks controls or whatever it is thrown in there as a after thought....

for those who can, access comes by looking through the crystals....

Yup, the walk-through is/was one of my (and my daughter's) favorites.
We were both saddened when it was closed.

However, I'm not sure how they'll accomodate the disabled access laws if they
redo with the long hiatus; I don't think there's any way they can grandfather this,
if they do substantial work to re-open it.

Why wouldn't they be able to grandfather this? They did for Subs, which was closed for longer.

I'd love to see the walk-through back. However, the subs have an alternate experience for those that have ADA specifications. I think that is how they get away with it.

I think Disney uses the ADA excuse a lot, when they would be able to grandfather it in. I think this is to mislead people in order to avoid complaints.

There are zero ADA problems because the walk-thru has never been revamped into something else. I don't think Disney has ever used ADA as an "excuse" for closing the SB walk-thru either. The 9-11 security issue is another red herring. They just closed it to save a little money and make other use of the space, since it wasn't all that popular.

The big irony with the SB walk-thru is that by the time Eyvind Earle's art began to be truly appreciated, they had replaced his work in the walk-thru with horrible barbie-doll crap. The original Ken Anderson/Eyvind Earle walk-thru would probably be better reviewed and appreciated today than at any time since it was new. In hindsight, I count my memories of that original version as precious, but like most others I didn't really appreciate it at the time.

If I am correct, I believe Disney did that out of courtesy, not because they had to.

Both Sleeping Beauty Castle and the subs are grandfathered. So long as no significant changes occur to either, they don't need to be ADA compliant. Sleeping Beauty Castle would still be grandfathered considering there would be no major reconstruction taking place during the rehab that would allow it to lose its grandfather status. Al reported that it could come back this year. No official word from TDA if this got a greenlight or not. Only time will tell. We can hope. It was truly a great attraction, and one of the highlights of the Disneyland experience.

If I remember correctly it was closed because it was a potential terrorist target, not because of the ADA. If they were to reopen it it would be grandfathered probably, but they will need to final a way to make sure people cycle through and dont linger, and lots of cameras

As an alternate viewing experience, they could have a photo album with color photographs of the 12 or so dioramas that can be seen inside the walk thru. I loved the diorama myself, all it really was were Barbie dolls posed in miniature scenes from the film Sleeping Beauty.

In fact, maybe Disney should offer all of us the alternate viewing experience until they reopen the walk thru... if they ever do.
