Is that an entrance to a new ride?

It's where they are hiding the loop they are adding to Pirates.

Close, but no cigar. After years of people on the online communities clamoring for the Main Street loop, Disney finally has decided to add one.

Guest: Are they gonna close that up?
CM: ummm when they finish the business down there that needs to be finished.

No, we're gonna leave it open and catch as many guests as we can. Actually Indiana Joel and I came up with the ingenious plan of cover the whole with a blanket and then laying a churro right in the middle, now there's a better guest trap.

I would like to state that Indiana Joel and Kristi were exemplary examples of 'CMs in training' as they did not let anyone fall into the hole. I'd be proud to have them on my yellow jacket team.

There are offices in my brain? Man, those people need a raise.

My theory is they found some old sketches of Jim Henson's, they will be doing some cross promotion of the movie Labryinth and putting any bad children or stroller wielding moms into the oubliette to teach them a lesson.

    This thread makes me giggle.

And I still contend 2 things - the hole had a railing around it, so it was more about people not crashing into the railing that was at least 3 feet high (good job guys!) AND, if it isn't the loop for pirates, perhaps those pics we saw last year with the loop for TSI got into the right hands at TDA and...well...

Woot! Good thing I had my mouse ears so people would know my name as well.

And, at that point it was a question of if the hole was gonna close up. And, to quote Panic from Hercules (sp?) "If? If is good."

Churros will catch anyone. ANYONE! That'll be sure to thin the crowds out over the busy season. They'll be the guinea pigs for the new loop.

But there was a problem C tower was stuck and couldn't come back down so said hole opened up and the techs scrambled to reboot the computer before the 9 show. They got it just in time though. The most fun though was watching her try and keep people from falling into the hole while coming up with fun things to say what was going on down there.

I called it the Well of Souls as in Raiders and hoped that the computer wasn't running Vista. That got a few laughs from the techs... oh, Mac humor is great. And a few Tron MCP jokes which no one really got... nerd humor only goes so far then, I guess....

The show went of without a hitch and I've gotta say, I love the new effects. But, anyways, I just had to share with the MCers this hole in the DL ground.

You're right, it was more about keeping people OUT of the area and tripping over the manhole cover and the thing they used to take it off, but that doesn't sound as interesting, now does it?

I do believe so, Miss Adelade, if the "of the 4" stands for the "Core 4" group I had created.

Hey, I worked for Ye Olde Phone Company for a bunch of years, and that manhole safety cage (railing) is quite stout - but it also isn't bolted down, it's just sitting there and only weighs 10 pounds tops...

Without a manhole shield ring mounted in the hole to provide an anchor (and to keep the water out if someone hits a fireplug uphill from you) if someone walked into it they could easily push it forward and "go down da hole!"

And yes, someone could trip over the lid, too. In a very crowded place like Disneyland with a lot of loose kids running amok, the only way to handle this is a wall of CM's physically securing the area.

Even on a quiet suburban street with little activity, there was a reason why I always had a radio turned on 'upstairs' while I was working away 'downstairs' - even a blind person out for a walk would know something is up ahead of them. Put that white cane on double-time to find that nice row of cones guiding you around the disaster area...
