 | Lilly Belle Restoration Rumors It seems that today is the big day for the Lilly Belle! Based on several cast member accounts, as well as some guest tales of seeing the Lilly Belle out in front of the roundhouse over the past few days, it looks like the grand old dame will be shipped off today for complete restoration, which is expected to take about 4 months. | Re: Lilly Belle Restoration Rumors I may never get to actually see the inside of it in person, but I will be very happy to see the Lilly Belle pulled behind any of the engines! Is the Lilly Belle still sitting outside the roundhouse today (Friday)? I'd love to cruise by and get a shot of her this afternoon... is she visible from the train or the monorail as they pass by?

| Re: Lilly Belle Restoration Rumors There is an article about the Lilly Belle in the latest (9/9/05) Disneyland Line. It says the refurbishment is currently under way and that the project "encompasses new siding and roof, refurbished mechanical equipment and new exterior paint and signage. Inside, new carpet and refinished paneling and furniture will complete the restoration". |

|  If I may inject some reality here... I have been in, on and all around the Lilly Belle several times over the past 2 years (yeah, in the north-east corner of the Roundhouse). Major dry-rot in the sides, some limited damage to the wood structural members, but nothing serious. I think I have some pictures - if I can find them, I'll post 'em. A prediction, if I may - DLR will be charged a pile of money to 'restore' the LB, even though the expertise exists in-house. DLR will pay a vast amount for drawings and redundant engineering to comply with DOSH requirements, and DLR will pay a definite huge premium for "the last payment" risk that any contractor/vendor understands after one job at Disneyland. In other words, this is a nice railcar, but nothing that special. The interior is fine, the windows are OK, the exterior needs a couple hundred grand worth of work. The chassis and rolling gear is excellent. The to-DLR cost of 'restoring' the LB will surpass anything any rational person would imagine. But, at least it's a gesture to Disney fans that maybe - just maybe - somebody gives a damn. Excuse the rant....  |
