Re: Enclosed Fantasyland Theatre in 2010

This sounds good. If Disney really goes through with it, I hope that it will be a first class effort though. Cheaply enclosing the existing tent-like structure that they have now would be kinda hokey. A proper building for a theatre would be expensive to build. Anyway, for me, and until we have a little girl of our own to bring to the Princess Faire, I might see anything that they might put in there as an improvement to folks without a young daughter. It would mean less $$$ for Disney, but more relevant to the masses.
It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.

Re: Enclosed Fantasyland Theatre in 2010

I hope this really comes true and that we get a new stage show at Disneyland. I love watching Aladdin at DCA and enjoyed Finding Nemo when we were in WDW last year. And an enclosed theater has the added benefit of being a nice respite on those really hot days, like this weekend.

As for completely useless, but fun, speculation, I was perusing the list of upcoming animated features that was posted over in the News Forum. Perhaps a new stage show could be based off an upcoming movie. Without knowing much about them, some possibilities: The Princess and the Frog (2009) or Rapunzel (2010) sound really interesting to me. Again, pure speculation for fun.

I wish they would bring back Beauty and the Beast Show. Watching B&B outside during the summer nights were the best. Totally worth a train stop.

If this news actually comes true, then BRAVO!!

Altho I will miss the open air feeling the Fantasyland Theatre has, I can certainly understand the reason for enclosing it. And once this happens, perhaps they'll put in a spectacular stage show that will be worthy of the new theatre, because it's been long over do!!

Personally, since the new theatre will open in 2010, I think the stage show should reflect the 55th anniversary of Disneyland. Something entirely unique, upbeat, fun, colorful and with a great musical score.

Come on, Disney, give us something unique and that can only be experienced at Disneyland!!

Maybe similar to Animazemment. And maybe since Walt Disney World has articulated characters, we should have them too.
    Nice Idea!

I'm not entirely thrilled if they do this. Especially if they build a theatre the size of the Hyperion.

Currently you can see the tent from behind the castle as you walk down Main Street.

Now imagine a theatre the size of the Hyperion looming behind it. Total eyesore.

Now if they build something with a low-level roof that can accomodate smaller productions, that to me would be preferable. Or maybe one or two Fantasyland type dark rides might be nice as well.

Really???!!!! Shows how tastes vary. I prefer Aladdin at DCA, or the DLP productions of Lion King and Tarzan.

and I do not really like Philharmagic. But a new use for the theatre would be great!

I couldn't agree more. If they are going to do this, then they need to do it right, the first time. I actually like the open air theater as it is now, but the show should be top notch. The Snow White show of a few years ago was very well done we thought. My wife loved the show before that with all the movies kind of put together.

Most importantly for Disneyland though, this means that the Princesses will finally be back where they belong, walking the paths of Fantasyland. I'm seeing many positives here.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

I don't mind a smaller theater than what they have. Although I am not a fan of shows, one of my favorite shows at Disney Hollywood Studios is the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. One of the thing I like about it is it a smaller venue. It means more performances during the day. I think that is better than trying to full a great big room only a couple times a day. Also they do puppet along with other special effects that make it feel special. The big show does not feel right for a theme park. I like the smaller, more intimate setting.

I'm glad it isn't going to be Princess Fantasy Faire forever. Instead of merely being enclosed, I rather the theatre be rebuilt with comfortable seats like the Hyperion and two levels of balcony seating. That way, some of the space cleared up could be used to expand Toontown, Fantasyland, or even a new land.

I didn't know people screamed on Gadget's Go Coaster.

Re: Enclosed Fantasyland Theatre in 2010

I've heard that the FL theatre was going to be replaced for a while now, hopefully it happens soon. Currently you can spot the tents or "cone bras" as others have jokingly called it peaking out behind the castle, which is a big eyesore. Although I would like a Hyperion-style theatre to replace it, if they actually build a theatre the size of the hyperion it would be an even bigger eyesore (If you've seen the Hyperion apart from the HPB facade facing the park, it's just a big warehouse like structure)

I'm sure we'll get a smaller version of the Hyperion, but not as large and Broadway-caliber because of this. Hopefully they wont put PhillharMagic, Finding Nemo, or Toy Story in here. PhillharMagic is nice but as with all movie-based attractions gets old after a while (plus it already exists in two other disney parks, do we really need another clone??). Finding Nemo is an okay show but not as good as Aladdin at DCA in my opinion, the reason being that Finding Nemo never had songs in the movie so there's no "connection," while in Aladdin you are hearing all the memorable songs from the film, along with Aladdin's added funny tidbits here and there. And do we really need a Toy Story show in Fantasyland of all places? I'm hoping for an original production based on one of the "classic" Disney films, but at this point anything other than what's currently there will be an upgrade. I wouldn't keep my hopes up if they announce Year of A Million Dreams, Part III for '09 though (hopefully the princesses can find elsewhere to do meet & greets, do they really need an entire theatre for this?)

I remember when i used to have cheerleading competitions on that Fantasyland stage. Ahh the good old days...I hope whatever goes in this area is a hit. The Princess Fantasy Faire is such a waste of space.
