Wasn't the Maliboomer supposed to look like one of those carnival games where you hit the hammer as hard as you can and see if the thing hits the bell at the top? I don't know what they are called. The theming was there initially, i just don't think its the most popular attraction.

No!!!! I love that ride. It had its degree of fun-ness(when the winds allowed it).

Yes. But is that Disney-style theming? I can't bring myself to say it's anything close. It's an off-the-shelf (so to speak) ride with the minimalest of minimal theming applied. And the theming is basically another unthemed attraction.

Half of everything at Disneyland and DCA isn't "Disney" themed so to speak. What I'm saying is that thematically, the Maliboomer fit in with the seaside pier carnival.

Unfortunately true. Doesn't make it okay for it to be that way, though--twenty wrongs don't make a right, no matter how many ways you slice or skin that cat.

What I'm saying is that thematically, the Maliboomer fit in with the seaside pier carnival.
Does it? I haven't seen drop tower attractions at boardwalks so much as inland permanent amusement parks. But maybe I just don't get out enough. In any case, as I've said before, it only works if this is a modern amusement park we're talking about, since drop towers are a relatively recent type of ride. Disney still hasn't made any clear statements about what Paradise Pier is supposed to be, thematically speaking, after all the changes are made.

Less than a year actually. It's removal begins in 2009. By late 2009 it's removal will be finished.

I originally posted this picture in the Maliboomer removal thread, but I think it would fit in here just as well.

This is how the pier will look when the MaliBOOMer! gets removed, along with the possible removal of Orange Stinger. I also added in Mickey's face upon the ferris wheel and touched up the missing parts of the hotel. (I know its not the greatest picture; I'll probably try and do a better and more realistic one later on -- but it gives you a rough visualization!)

I addition to what others have posted, it's plot also loosely follows that of a Disney Channel film released in 1997. So it is very much a "Disney" ride.

^ But the one in FL opened before the movie was out.

The movie had NOTHING to do with the Twilight Zone.

    Re: The Maliboomer

True, but you cannot deny the similarities in plot. I used the term "loosely" because as you said, it in reality is not related to the twilight zone at all. Perhaps the movie was a precursor to the "rides into movies" fad Disney has rolled with in the last few years? From what I can remember the movie was played often, so it must have brought in reasonable ratings.

    Re: The Maliboomer

Well, Disney selling something in a ride shop that has NOTHING to do with that ride is nothing new. They have LOST stuff in the ToT store in FL and they have Pirates and Jack Skellington stuff EVERYWHERE.

I realize that has nothing to do with the Disney Channel movie, but they do sell it in the store.

I like this ride. I hope they keep. But if they end up do tearing it down, I hope they replace it with a good ride, and not a dark ride or something.

I am looking for VMK Cards! Please email me if you have some!
