Re: All time favorite Disney parade!

I loved the Mulan Parade and the Hercules Victory parade, the first summer that I worked at the Park.
To watch, I loved the Main Street Electrical Parade and Light Magic. I just like the technology behind it and the music from both of them.

Re: All time favorite Disney parade!

Lion king nothing compares. No parade before or after has had as big of an impact as This one it will be the one to top for a long time to come. It was the biggest draw for 3 years and no entertainment offering has come close.( not counting Fantasmic its been around forever). Long live the (original) Rhinos.......

Re: All time favorite Disney parade!

Of course the Main Street Electrical Parade. Party Gras was fun too.

Also, and no I'm not joking, Mickey's Rainy Day Cavalcade. It's short but has all the characters you care about. On top of that, since it's raining there is usually no one to fight with to get a spot to watch it.

Yes, The Main Street Electrical Parade (before all the deletions) was my favorite night time parade. And with Barouque Hoedown as the best song of any Disney Parade, Only one part of Light Magic was cheered out loud, and that's the part where they play the Barouque Hoedown for just a few seconds, and of course who didn't get chills when you saw and heard DL's 50th Fireworks show, and you heard the announcer say once again, on Main Street "....... The Main Street Electrical Parade".

(Spectro Magic just didn't top it, not with the creepy Chuckie Dolls! EEEEK!!!! And the music just doesn't have have the right feel. Chip and Dale at a piano?!?!? Bleahhhh Haven't seen the parades in Japan or Paris)

I also Loved seeing the Eureka! parade after dark! It's only then that you could truely appreciate all the colors in that parade!

Favorite Daytime parade was Party Gras! Again, another colorful parade, great costumes, fun music, coins being tossed out! Something about this theme works so wonderfully in Disney Parks, whether it was DL, WDW, or DL Japan, The Party Gras theme was perfect for a celebration.

I also enjoyed the Aladdin Parade ~ "Prince Ali" was such a catchy tune, and it was great seeing that in a Disney Parade! I also enjoyed the Hercules Parade! Once again the floats were very imaginative, along with puppets used in the parade.

Oh, one comment, regarding America on Parade, I'm glad they TRIED to do a parade for the Bicentennial, BUT those supersize big headed people weren't as creepy as the Chuckie doll parade at WDW, but they were the predecessor. Big headed people in parades isn't a good thing. (big headed animated animal characters are ok, just not real people)

And Lion King was good, but in my opinion, over-rated. Mulan was also a good parade, just not one of my favorites. Parade of Dreams was a good effort, and good night lighting, too. It would make a top 10 list for me.

I couldn't have said it better myself! You just broke it down. Without a doubt, my all time favorite Disney parade, and the greatest in Disney history is THE MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE!

You are quite right, the few times I've seen Light Tragic, the part that got the biggest emotional response was the small section with the Baroque Hoedown in it. I remember watching the premier of the "streetacular" on channel 13 back in 1997 and when the Baroque Hoedown came on, I got up and started dancing. It was the same on the DVD of the AP special preview of the show. The crowd was pretty dead until Baroque Hoedown came on. The whooped and hollered for it.

I remember back in February of 2006, my sister was invited for a luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel by Fun Express, because she sold discount tickets to Disneyland at her job. She was given two complimentary passes to Disneyland for one day. We went the next day. This was my first time being back in Disneyland since Fall of 2002, and before that, it had been six years since I was there. That was when we were on hand in Disneyland for the final Main Street Electrical Parade on Nov. 25, 1996. Anyway, I remember we were going to watch the fireworks from the hub. I hadn't seen the show yet, and I was really looking forward to it. We got a good spot, and wouldn't you know it, the show got cancelled. We still had a good time anyway, but I was just really determined to come back and see the Electrical Parade after nearly ten years. I was so anxious to see it, and so looking forward to it. I was at work browsing around on You Tube when I stumbled across a video entitled "Disneyland Remember DLRR-MSEP from Central Plaza." I was like, huh? I watched it and there it was. When I heard Jack say, "Disneyland's Main Street Electrical Parade!" it just brought it all back to me, as if listening to a memory or a dream. I was pleasently surprised and felt robbed at the same time. I kept thinking how excited I would've been if the fireworks show had've went on and I would've seen that part for the very first time, completely unaware. I would've been beside myself. I get chills everytime I hear it on Main Street. It makes me think that there's still hope for a return engagement to Disneyland.

Let me make something perfectly clear to everyone. This parade is the one that brought nighttime business, as we know it today, to Disneyland in the first place. This parade allowed Disneyland to remain competitive with, the then new, Walt Disney World. This parade was THE most popular attraction in the park, and that includes all the other rides and shows. In other words, more people watched the parade than rode on any ride in the park. The popularity of the parade INCREASED as time went on, all the way until the end in 1996, not decrease. In the farewell season at Disneyland, they were forced to shut down the park one weekend, due to the massive crowds trying to get a last look at the wonderful parade. It forced them to push back the closing date from Oct. 15th to Nov. 25th. The Main Street Electrical Parade began in 1972 and it still performs in some capacity to this day. Even when it was "retired" in Disneyland back in '96, Disneyland Paris' Main Street Electrical Parade, which was really Walt Disney World's Main Street Electrical Parade, was in its 4th year. So far, people across three continents know of the Electrical Parade, and the synthesized music from the Baroque Hoedown. In Japan, they loved their Electrical Parade so much that they reincarnated it, eight years after it first left, as Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade - Dreamlights. They've incorporated the music into their video games, in sort of techno versions, I've seen them put the music to a fireworks show, and I've even seen the music played at the start of what seemed to be a bachelorette party. LOL! No other parade has had such longevity. No other parade has been able to move people the way MSEP has. No other parade has had such a loyal following that has gone beyond the gates of Disneyland, and has transcended even the 11+ years since the parade's untimely "retirement." The majority of the people on here just said that MSEP was their favorite parade. I think I'm about the 20th person. I don't think Lion King Celebration ever shut down the park. Is Aladdin's Royal Caravan still around? No. If you mention the Mulan parade to someone in Paris, will they know what you're talking about? Probaly not. MSEP is internationally known.

It is for these reasons that Main Street Electrical Parade is the greatest parade in the world.

As a former Main Street "Coke Corner" CM, you'd think that dealing with "parade rushes" and hearing/seeing parades twice daily would make one despise any and all parades, but alas, MSEP is my all time favorite! Once the crowds would leave, and the straws, napkins and condiments were stocked, we could enjoy the parade. My favorite part was the crazy lion king from Robin Hood who would ride in the calliope and fling himself out and hang from the sides! I'll never forget the music during that particular potion of the parade.

My 2nd favorite is the Christmas Parade. I used to LOVE the silly reindeer with their tongues hanging out of their mouths and their crossed eyes. I want them back!
Actually, that lion in the Dumbo's Circus part of the parade is King Leonidas from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. A lot of people think that he is Little John from Robin Hood too.

I seem to remember Mickey Mania from WDW (possibly Magic Kingdom, but don't quote me on that one) when I first visited when I was a kid. But, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as mine, MSEP is a given, but other than that, I haven't been as enamored with a parade as I had been with the Block Party Bash. I don't know... it was just so much fun! It was one of the only parades that I tried to see every time I went to DCA. Watching the Pixar Play Parade recently just made me miss the Block Party all the more.
