Re: DCA Entrance Construction Finally Beginning?

Sounds like they are doing it for safety issues. So is 2009 when they will begin?

They did this because of all the Food & Wine freaks vomiting in the fountain after one too many glasses of wine.

Drunk folk and fountains--one of the most lethal and simultaneously entertaining combinations there is.

Yea, I saw the walls up yesterday. Looked like the walls were pushed right up to the rails too. More than likely due to a supposed kid falling in because they looked like they were there to prevent that incident from happening again than refurbishment.

Nevermind... looks like it is for replacement/refurbishment of the rails. Mice Age Monday update FTW.

The first thing they want to get done on the new entrance is the new turnstiles, that way they can still pump people into the park, even with the new plaza being constructed. (they are going to have you walk down a walled path from the new entrance to get to the rest of DCA, sorta like when TL was being redone.)

Why not just rip out the fountain now if there is a legal issue? I think it's just a waste of money to replace the railings around it if the fountain is going to be ripped out in the near future anyway.

    Replacing railings, not that expensive.

Removing the entire fountain would be much more expensive, and then you would have an empty "hole" until 2009.

So Disney made the decision to go for "safety" and fix/replace the Handrails, and if you look at the Monday in the Parks update (link below), you can see they actually cut off the railings at the base of the posts. This isn't just a minor repair.

One thing I have noticed is the Sun icon thing has not been lit up at night for the past few weeks when I've been there. Perhaps there are some issues with that lighting they may work on as well.

I have never seen anyone mention it, but did you ever notice if you stop and listen to the fountain there, it sounds just like waves crashing at the beach? It think that's pretty cool.

I can just imagine the "Look what sucky DCA has done now, a big whole of nothing for a year" thread.

    DB-

Obviously you're right in that they must have decided that they didn't want to leave a hole there until the rest of the construction got started, but if they're going to rip it out eventually, then the cost of demo is going to have to be spent somettime, either now or later, so I don't think that expense is probably the issue.

It's just sad to see more money spent on things that will be demolished in less than a year when there's already so much stuff that's going to be ripped out. This doesn't do much for the "Greening" of Disney. Lets at least hope that they can recycle and scrap most of what they demo.
