Re: CM smoking on stage (in a smoking area, at least)

Disney is private property. Smoking is legal, but Disney has every right to set whatever rules regarding smoking on their property they want to both for employees and for guests.

A cast member smoking on stage is bad form and bad show and people have every right to complain about it. I wouldn't go out of my way to complain, but I'd certainly drop off a snap shot with the offending CM's name and fill out a complaint.

It would be best to report it to City Hall.
I remember once while I was working I caught one of my Cast Members smoking in the smoking section because her trainer did not show her where the Cast Member smoking areas we're backstage, only where the Guest smoking section was because it's not the most important piece of information and usually gets looked over unless a new hire asks, and most of the time they dont want to put off a bad impression so they wont ask.

Wouldn't that, by definition, be going out of your way to complain?

Don't want smoke? Then don't go into the smoking area. Its not like they're unavoidable and wandering the park.

Meh. The guy has a job to do and that's to make sure he performs his duty on stage and have his breaks off stage. I don't care if he's having a bad day. I don't care if he wasn't "harming" anyone. I don't even care that he was in a designated smoking area. It's not a designated BREAK area as long as you're wearing that costume.

    That's all.

Re: CM smoking on stage (in a smoking area, at least)

I have come to sincerely dislike the "they had a bad day cut them some slack" arguement so commonly used as an excuse for a bad show. I don't know how it is in DL, but at every job I've ever had the people that grossly broke the rules (such as smoking with a buddy in costume on break in front of other guests) were simply those that didn't care about the job. Those that were good employee's, truly cared about the job and had a bad day tended to break the rules in a way that was so small that only fellow employees would really notice.
I understand that bad days happen, but so do people that don't care about their job. DL is unique in that it promises the Disney Difference in their employees, and when that difference isn't there it makes the experience more lacking than if this difference wasn't promised in the first place. It isn't unrealistic to expect a promise to be fulfilled.
Sorry for the rant! It's been on my mind a lot lately as someone who may be a CM in a matter of months.

I can see how some people would be offended but in my opinion if he wasn't hurting anyone other than himself by, being in the designated area and not causing any of the day guests trouble it shouldn't be a "big deal" but for those who don't like that others are smoking in general I suppose you could say its BAD SHOW but I wouldn't be offended by it nobody was breaking the law.

Re: CM smoking on stage (in a smoking area, at least)

I'd have no problem with it as long as it's in the designated area, but if there's one backstage, CM's really should use it.

I don't smoke, or endorse smoking in any way whatsoever, but I can imagine the guy had a hard day/shift, and CM's are people too, so there you go, that's what I think.

Not at all. If I'm walking right by City Hall it's no big deal to duck in. And my camera has a view screen so they can look for themselves there. I'm most certainly not going to otherwise interrupt my plans to do it though.

WSVR. How about shrinking that last post so we don't have to scroll 3 feet?

And so did you only post this to see how many people could POSSIBLY defend it?

Just like restrooms, the smoking sections in the park are for Guests only. This CM should probably be reprimanded for smoking on stage period -- whether it was in the right section or not.

But with the current state of management constantly having their head up their *** I don't believe anything would happen to this CM unless it came from high up park exec.

Wow CM's smoking on stage Big Whoop. There's probably not another nearby smoking area. I see no problem with it.

CMs can't even sit onstage! Smoking? Out of the question!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I'd love to take a generational poll here. I have found with recently working with teens today, that they have no regard for rules, common sense, or respect. Ok, not all teens in this generation, but a large portion. I believe this action, and the defense here, could be result of that.
