Disney Stock Footage

You see it in promotional footage, it appears in Disney TV spechals, and it’s used in Disney cast TV spots. But does anyone know if Disney has an archive of stock Disneyland footage? Does Disney record a ride/attraction before it opens and then keeps it for historical purposes?

It would be great to see professional film of America Sings or some of the old shows. Well what do you say? Inquiring minds want to know!

Wink Re: Disney Stock Footage

yes they do. i work for a production company and one of our big clients is disney. we have a large library of attraction and park b roll, as well as pre-produced spots (the ads you see on TV). We have a few hours of stock footage (10+ hours, maybe even higher), both current and historical.

Re: Disney Stock Footage

Disney mostly hires film crews to do the actual shooting, we just get tapes from them.
We have in the past shot at the park, but its mainly interviews with marketing people or imagineers (we did a bunch for the 50th) We produce travel programming, and feature Disney.

For example, with Midway Mania opening soon, I would imagine we might get footage of that to use on the segment we do on them soon. They might have already filmed that stuff in fact. The actual footage could vary, from exteriors of the attraction, to the attraction itself. They even do staged ride footage. An example would be something like Space mountain footage, where they have actors on a actual rocket, but its shot on a soundstage and not the actual ride. It would be to dark to shoot anything inside. They have done this on a few things. You can always tell because it looks super fake.
