    Magic and Malfunction at DCA

So I went to the DCA last Sunday and a few things happened:

    Let's start with the MAGIC:
I specifically went that day because my 2fer was soon expiring and I really wanted to go to DCA. So the moment I step out of the car, I remember that I left the ticket at home, which is a good drive away. My family goes to the ticket booth and we tell the cast member the story. Although I expected a ruined day, she ended up printing me a Complimentary Ticket!! The day was great and I was really happy.

Now let's move over to the MALFUNCTION:
California Screamin' is one of my favorite rides at DLR and I also like the music played during the ride. (On a side note, I'm a big music person, so this ride like Space Mountain combines what I like - music and thrill) So I go on Screamin' ready for the music to start playing when i leave the station but ... no music turns on. The whole ride went by without sound (expect for screaming). I ended up singing the sond in my head.

So later that day I head back to Screamin' and get on the ride, and luckily the music starts as normal (let me point out that i was in a different train this time). So we launch and just before the first hill, the music shuts off . Then as we start going up the lift, the music turns on ... but not at the point in the song that correlates, it turns on from the beginning of the song. So at this point we're going down the hill, through the loop and around the Maliboomer and the music is completely different from the track. Then i noticed that at point like in the loop and drop(during the music) the song has screams added in? That was something new to find out!
We head down to the end and the music's still playing as if we were going fast. Then as we're going into the station, it's playing loud and eventually, abruptly shuts off.
    What a wierd ride!
Has this happened to anyone else? (and i don't mean the ticket situation)

It's a common problem with Screamin'
some of the ride vehicles work and others don't, it's a shame =[
If i'm not mistaken there is one which hasn't worked in forever and a day...

I've heard before that they add screams to the soundtrack. I've never heard of the sound being weird like that though. I have heard that often times at WDW the soundtrack will be off from the rest of the attraction. Up until the recent refurb of HM over there, Grim Grinning Ghosts was off compared to the singing busts. Nothing where the sound will just go on and off though.

I understand that everything probably malfunctions every once in a while, but what's causing the Screamin' soundtrack to malfunction so regularly? I think I've only been on it once with the music working, and it greatly enhanced the experience .

They do, you can hear them in the Source audio of the sound track.

Yeah I'm with futureimagineer, I too get very excited about the music and get somewhat crestfallen when it does not play. However I have never experienced anything like what you did on screamin', crazy.

i know; I'm seeing life in a whole new way . Ok maybe it's not that bad but still I think the music plays a big part in that ride, it takes your attention away from the environment around you, and by this i mean the city of anaheim and the convention center. It needs to be fixed.

I never knew the music didn't play at times. It always plays, every time I go on it.

    Weird.

But that's great about the ticket!

Re: Magic and Malfunction at DCA

Most thrill rides with music synced with the track will have problems at times; they are unavoidable. I havent read any patents for screamin, but I would assume that the train uses magnetic receivers to detect transmitters on the track. As the train passes each one, the music is re-synced with the track. Think about it; when you go over the 0-g hills on screamin, the music is always synced no matter what part of the coaster train you are on, front or back.

So, having said all that, it is likely that one or more sensors could be broken, or general maintenance is required. The same thing happens on Indy. There are a few EMVs that have sound issues. In fact, there is a video of a ride on indy on youtube where the music is not synced correctly at all. It's actually rather funny if you know how the music fits in the ride. I think I can even recall riding on that one EMV and having the same experience.

Anyways, any ride with music will eventually have syncing problems. They will break, even at the DLR!

First off, how awesome that you were able to get your ticket situation handled. Kudos to the Disney CM's on that one. I hope you went to Guest Relations to give them good news for a change.

Second, we had the same problem on our ride on Sunday. I certainly think Screamin' is over due for a LONG rehab. The trains, the track, the loop, all of it. Hopefully when they re-do the rest of that side of Paradise Pier they will also give the ride a very detailed (I'm talking months) rehab.

While they are at it, Space Mtn. can use one too.

I think Screamin' has used those speakers so much and had is so loud that it's burned out most of them. Anyone else remember them really working on the trains just for Rockin' last year?

If your talking about when we had the Red Hot Chilli Peppers music playing, as far as I can remember, the music played on every train, and it was really loud. You could slightly hear it across the street at the Paradise Pier Hotel. I think that with that music last year, it made the ride so much cooler.
