How did Fantasyland end before Toontown?

I've tried and tried searching everything from pictures, to youtube, etc. and I can't find any info.

I want to know what the back of fantasyland looked like on the left side of Small World before construction on Toontown began. Specifically, what was in the spot of the entrance of toontown that goes under the tracks. Was it just a berm? Any buildings of some sort?

    Pictures greatly appreciated.

MJ, Opus, and the rest of the historical society could help here. I remember just the planted berm, to the left Videopolis was added in the 80's, hence becoming the PFF.

Before it's a small world, there was a Fantasyland Train Station and a berm - - berm was opened up for ToonTown.

I don't believe the train stopped there from the time small world opened until the ToonTown depot was built. Also, before Videopolis/Fantasyland Theatre, there was nothing on that side of the road between StorybookLand and small world other than small world style souvenier stand and Kodak booth and hedges (like the other side). No Toy Shop either until the 80's.

Here's a fairly clear shot looking back towards the berm.

There's also a nice, clear aerial shot near the bottom of this Davelandblog post. Bermin' all the way.

Perfect, that helps a lot! My first trip to Disneyland was age 3 in 1988, so I didn't remember that one and my next one was at age 7 in 1992 so construction had already began. So I was really curious how that area was changed to have an entrance.

    Thanks for the pics!

Great pictures. Really brings back the memories!

To be honest I used to love that area of the park. It was so pretty. And when they got rid of it for ToonTown, part of me was actually a little bit sad.
