Just because it's a classic, doesn't make it perfect. It's close, but not quite. Things should still be done to enhance it every once in a while and make it the best experience it could possibly be, and this one part of the attraction was the only part that bothered me.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't have to visually awed at every point. I like the break from the stretching room and the Hallway. It's almost like a time to regroup and ask yourself if you really saw what you saw. Heck it's almost a time to let the kids settle down after the idiots are done terrifying them by screaming in the stretching room.

Anything would be better than just a painted black walls riding up a painted black ramp to the first scene.
Careful, or they'll add 3D screens that allow you to shoot Disney characters dressed up as Marc-Davis-style AAs...

It could just be a simple tunnel before the big effect, or perhaps a continuation of the theming of the portrait hall, but nothing much. The train tunnel is still directly overhead at that point, so there's not as much vertical space, and the handicapped access areas cut into the footprint of it. But with some clever imagination+engineering--the oft-lost meaning of "Imagineering"--it might work.

And I'm not sure what aashee's answer is, k_peek_2000, but I'm a little concerned that the staircases would be a little too much, coming right before the comparatively tame corridor of doors. But I could be wrong. Also, the fact that people would be walking into the area rather than just floating past it would somewhat change the nature of the experience. Imagine being seated in the Doombuggy as it enters the very start of the loading area and then riding it all the way through, past the ramp, and up into the CoD, watching the staircases around you all along. That's what the equivalent of the WDW version would be. But we at DL would be walking into the middle of the scene, looking at all of it in front of us initially and then riding past the second half of it. Could be very cool, but it could also not be. Hard to say. In any case, the effect would really need to be seamless. Impeccable. After all, people would have more time to examine it.
I already saw the problems with the stairway being there...but it would give an extremely trippy feel to the scene tht the limbo scene already gives, but with a more mansion esc feel to it. I wouldn't be heart broken to see it not happen. In fact i'm bending away from that idea completely now, but something definitaly needs to replace the limbo stuff...something trippy, but not too trippy, and not including any ghosts at all but rather an enviormental creepieness to fit in with the story line... any ideas people?

    here's what I got...

after going through the portriat gallery, you turn the corner and see an extention of actual mansion(with out the high cieling of the limbo area, it's like a tunnel as Datamiester suggested) and this will be a new library scene that you see before boarding your doombuggy, Once you exit this you finaly see the load area, it now looks kind of like the HM movie foyer(just less rennasance looking and more New Orleans-ish) and supports the fact that on either side of the room there are stairways for the doombuggies to go through... The main weenie or effect here is like the one in Paris, when lightning flashes threw the windows, all of the color from the scene is drained out, and it becomes a "monochromatic gray landscape"

To be honest, the library scene in WDW is rather boring. It was a place to put the busts that are in the hallway who's eyes follow you. There are a few books moving and a ladder to get the higher books are moving as well. For a library to work it would have to be better executed than the one in Florida.
